have just been going through some Victoria 1d postage stamps (1901-12 "Postage"), checking the watermarks. ACSC shows the watermark usually being "V Over Crown (2 types)" and "Crown Over A". were other paper/watermarks used in the printing of this stamp? along with the ...

Didge and Sherro - yep, is an insteresting collecting area - I fell into it by accident - got a few decimal covers in with a lot of pre-decimal covers a while back and each time I look at the decimal covers they gain a bit more appeal. Glen - wouldve loved those 27 cartons to go through but distance...

Ive also been adding a few decimal commercial covers to the collection - a bit more affordable than the roos on cover! I dont have the postage rates info for this era yet or know what stamps are scarce on piece but am looking forward to learning more and digging deeper - they make for some interesti...

looks like a great deal - Id grab it, especially for the covers (plus Im sure theres a few other bits and pieces there) but it would be a long walk from my place yo yours and an even longer walk home carrying all that! if anyone knows of an empty van coming from Sydney to Nth Vic let me know! :wink:

Gday Browny - hope alls well yep, thank goodness Tatts kept so many covers intact - I think more and more Tatts covers will be a good area to collect as it ticks all the boxes - covers, history and relatively cheap! Ill have to place my order for the book above before too long to get the full story....

Still, I have no doubt that Australia is still the best in the world. No other team would have got so close both times despite their middle order collapse.. unfortunately AP staff seem to be allergic to real postage stamps - counter staff do their best to avoid them at all costs and as we all know the sorters love taking their revenge with the biro. best way is to make sure you have a supply of stamps at home to apply to mail before getting into the PO ...
