I regularly buy from both Oz and NZ and never pay the extra for registration unless that is the only option.

Never had a problem.

If it were genuine then you have the correct SG no., but I would be very suspicious that this is a forgery. The shape of the letter is not quite correct, I think. However, let's hope the experts can advise differently.

If so, I can only find Military Sealift Command (MSC) as a possibility, without looking for too long, though.

It's worth less than the stamp with correct spelling!!

Your stamp has fading of the control number at the top (should be a nice red), and I think it has a crease, so value is quite low, a few cents, or on ebay on a good day, you might get 50c.

I have some stamps that scott lists as never issued. Do they have no value of any kind? One is a Nicaragua 122 over printed 1 cent 1904 with the overprint inverted. Just seems they should be worth something, assuming it real. The crucial wording in the question, here, is "assuming it real"...

Twenty-odd years ago, a colleague of mine arrived in Italy by plane (Rome, I think) and needed to change his currency into Lire. He only had Scottish notes. I used to "volunteer" to go shopping with my grandmother to the Co-op in Arlesey in the mid-50's, just to see those in action. I was only 6 or 7, and I was so fascinated by them. I even got to send the cash carrier once, I recall.
