If anything, they are not even very attractive, but why are they so common and so popular with the kiddies. I agree with Glen.

I use the criterion given in the Michel catalogs. To be a true
double (over)print, the two impressions must be displaced
from each other in both the horizontal and vertical directions.

Based on that, none of the overprints shown in this thread
would seem to qualify.

As far as I know, the only prosecutions in the US have
been for selling large quantities of washed stamps to
commercial interests.

From memory they came as PDFs but if you wanted to convert them into doc or pub files there are apps available to do this. Scott has the habit of not mentioning the printing method unless it changed from the previous set. If it's not stated, you have to keep looking back until you find it. Kind of a pain, but it's there. This stamp is from a set of 17 issued in 1916. The overprint
is a crown over monogram ET standing for "Hellenic Post".

Not that unusual. There were/is a large number of Manx in
the Cleveland area.

I'm Manx, I'm from Cleveland, and when I was growing up

I doubt that the first letter is a W. I'm looking for towns
starting with letters where the left side is vertical - e.g.
BDEFHIKLMNPR (and maybe U).

I sold my Belgium collection, so I no longer have any
comparison material.

My observations: The letters in the top and bottom
inscriptions appear to be too thin and the outer frame
line is definitely too thin. And the clincher - line perf
instead of comb perf.

I think APS got it right.

It's a revenue stamp overprinted for use as a postage due
stamp. Scott 189.

The revenue stamps from that set were originally used to
authenticate devalued banknotes during the post-WWII
inflation period.

Yes, such franking was legal in both the east and the west.
Most frequently it can be found used by philatelists, as is

Michel lists two versions of the card -
P 6a - greenish black
P 6b - deep black

Used catalog values are the same for both colors -
unsevered double card - 50 euros

This variety (imperf at left) is not listed in my 2005-06

Rub the hinge back and forth with your tongs. (I use the
pointed tip but some people use the blunt end.) Go slow
and be patient. Should work about 80% of the time.
