Having now seen the envelope and knowing that most mail gets bent / folded parallel to the long dimension as in this case, the best use of the flyweight packing is probably with the ribs parallel to the short dimension of the envelope!

Your second picture probably adds more to helping identify "chalky" paper visually by looking at the plain paper areas than many words can.

There is a late 1960s film titled Thunderbird 6, which both I and my young son at the time enjoyed watching at the cinema.
