According to the invoice, this set was purchased from Stanley Gibbons Australia in Dec 1995.

Can anyone tell me if there is any value in this set? I have read about how few sets were produced, but also about fakes/forgeries also being produced.

If there is value, is there a recommended place to get this certified?

(I normally wouldn't post an image this size, but I thought detail may be required)

Thanks for any/all assistance.

John, the price of the basic set of 11 settled down at around the $A200-$225 (about $US160) mark a few years ago. Each of them, excepting the 50t on 35t Mask can be obtained for around $A25 ea or less, and some are as low as $A2.00 (MUH).

There were few or no forgeries of the first set of 11 that I know of, but there was considerable controversy over the provinence of some of the later o/p issues.

It is now relatively easy to pick up a set with 2 to 3 phone calls, or checking dealers price lists.

I doubt if the value of an expertisation certificate would alter the stamps value sufficiently to make it worthwhile to obtain one.

Thanks, Norm. I remember LINN's doing an article about these and they threw around numbers that seemed impressive, but referenced the forgeries.

Appreciate the help.

Hi John

Glen and I (thanks to his extreme generosity) have sufficient hi-res information to allow identification of forgeries, but with the exception of the "key" item, who would bother unless large blocks or a sheet was involved?

The definitive outline on this entire set in more detail than you could ever want is at

www.glenstephens.com/overprints.html

No fakes ever reported on the basic set of 20.

As Doug mentions I had full sheets of all them once, and took sharp colour copies full size which we both have a copy of now, and which are a superb resrouce.
