Hello there,

I'm hoping that someone can tell me about these two stamps. I see that one is from 1966 but I'm not sure if they are Russian or from elsewhere in the Eastern Block.

Given I am totally new to this, I could be heading in the wrong direction all together, so I would really appreciate your input.

Many thanks to you in advance.

The first is Russia or more correct Soviet Union and the second is Ukraine.

If you have more of these, it's a good idea to google up a Cyrillic alphabet to help make sense of the writing.

What looks like CCCP translates to SSSR = Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik = Union of Soviet Socialist Republics = USSR.

The second stamp has "Postage / Ukraine People's Republic" and the currency "Griven". It also has the trident logo thingy (top corners) found on many Ukraine stamps.

Thanks so much!
There are a few more, so your suggestions are VERY helpful.

Working out the age of them seems tricky (unless it's glaringly obvious with dates on it somewhere). Any suggestions on working out the date?

The Asian and Arabic ones look tricky too, but one step at a time :)

Really appreciate the feedback. Thank you both!
best, BLV

Picky minor point. The currency is Hryven'. The letter that
is pronounced G in Russian is pronounced H in Ukrainian.

Bonus grammar lesson:
numbers ending in 1 - Hryvnia (Гривня)
numbers ending in 2, 3 or 4 - Hryvni (Гривні)
numbers ending in 0, 5-9 - Hryven' (Гривень)

Yes, but that's a more advanced lesson. Someone transliterating without a Cyrillic background is going to see Griven, not Hryven. But you are quite right. :D

My name is Hans, so in Cyrillic Гaнc (Gans) which is German for "Goose" ... so I know all about it.

I much prefer Xaнc.
