:?: Well, Im new to this list and hail from Oregon USA.

Im an enthused collector of CTO/Speciman stamps, mostly Commenwealth, and came across the a die1/2 3d 3rd wmk pair the other day. I intend to show a pic of same, but cannot figure out the image protocol.

Can anyone interpret the "Insert image" business above?

Many thanks

Dave

:D

I have a feeling this is a CTO item, given the centering and fineness of the cancel. Opinions?

Your help is much appreciated!

Hi Dave

Welcome to Stampboards-I'm sure youll have lots of fun and pick up useful info on the way like the rest of us :)

You might like to put a post on the first thread-the Rollcall. This is where new member can post to introduce themselves.

Re adding pictures, its quite simple.

There is the whole photobucket.com option which is great but an easier way initially is just to:

*find an image on the web

*right click on the image and you will get a mini-drop down menu-the last thing on the menu is 'properties'

*click on properties and you will see a url in the centre eg
http://www.glenstephens.com/m3-Egypt%201pd%20wedding.jpg

*click on this url to highlight then 'cut' it (Control C)

*paste it into your stampboards message box (Control V)

*highlight it again

*click on [img] box at the top of the message box
(this will put it into a format enabling it to show up on your message properly)
[img]http://www.glenstephens.com/m3-Egypt%201pd%20wedding.jpg [img]

*then click preview to check it appears ok in your message then click submit

Look forward to seeing your images
Margot

Thanks Margo!

Your kind suggestions seem to have worked! Now you can see the item I was asking about: whether its CTO or not.

Dave :)

Does the pair have gum?

If so PO CTO for sure. From scan can't comment at all on Die1/2 aspect, and many collectors get that wrong so be careful of that!

Looks at first glance like a PO CTO cancel from 3rd Wmk era to me, maybe Simon Dunkerley might like to offer a thought?

The 1913 1st Wmk Roos nearly all had a quite different CTO cancel of MEL in Specimen packs. Like one finds on state of Victoria CTO vals which are pretty common. Usually (but not always) placed between 2 stamps on Roos, not 4 stamps as this is.

Some 1913 high values also have QLD cancels that were sold in Archive sales, but were never in collector packs.

3rds had one cancel similar to yours and also a smaller one that is more often seen on SM and CofA CTOs, i.e. generally 1930s era.
