iomoon, you're being true to the algorithm but not to the sequence!

Bedtime for me now - it's too late for arithmetic!

Good game muruk! 8)

I think most of the mistakes are finger slips rather than mathematical miscalculations.

I could be wrong.

You probably need to qualify that by adding that you are counting in British. For USA citizens it would be: One thousand three hundred and four trillion nine hundred and fifty nine billion five hundred and forty four million nine hundred and twenty eight thousand six hundred and fifty seven.

In New Zillund it would be Wun thousind ... never mind ...

Incidentally ... what should we call an inhabitant of the USA? "American" simply is not correct.

Every third Fibonacci number is even.

sorry about my posting yesteday.
have gone back to my workings, on a bit of paper as the numbers are too big for the spreadsheet, the last 3 digits are 288, but badly written and I typed the middle 8 as a 6

Reminds me of early days in Fortran programming. Computers could only handle a limited number of digits. For precision in long numbers we had to break the numbers into components, say, six digits long, then write an algorithm to perform the operations (multiplication, division, whatever), and correctly reassemble the partial results to get the final solution. Will be interesting to see how far we get in this thread ... of course, we can always revert to manual calculations.

Anyone want to try counting by factorials?

Lead away muruk... 8)

Just for the exercise, I have been factoring my Fibonacci numbers....

F(78) = 23 x 79 x 233 x 521 x 859 x 135721 =

8,944,394,323,791,464

Doing it the adding up previous nos, not long multiplication

1,304,959,544,928,657 +
2,111,475,077,978,050
=
3,416,434,622,906,707

so is one of the component numbers wrong?
