A very big Thank you to Gavin H. and Electric Chook (Frank). These members took time out of their busy lives to send my 6 year old son a very nice assortment of Stamps to jump start his collection.

You are both very kind and generous to do such a thing and must have great passion for keeping this wonderful hobby going through the generations.

Ian (My son) has sent personal thank you cards to both and you should see them within a few days. I thought you might like to see the end result of your kindness.

1 Happy collector

Busy organizing his collection, the way he wants :)

Its really great to see young people having passion for stamps. At present, philately seems to be a dying hobby among youth... Its really a sad scenario when u see the same faces everywhere.. anyway, love to share something i wrote on my blog:

http://ronlovestamps.blogspot.com/2010/ ... youth.html

Please take note its only my humble opinion.. would love to hear from all of you.

I can't thank all of you enough, Ian is loving his new hobby, and prying him away from his stamps is no longer an option :)

I might just have the next Glen Stephens on my hands

Emails have all been sent, and again let me thank you all for your generosity and kindness.

Rob

Rob, you and Ian are most welcome - lovely to see a young keen collector enjoying his stamps like that.

I only hope he gets the same pleasure from this great hobby as I have enjoyed since I was his age.

When I was young, I benefited greatly from stamps given by relatives and family friends with contacts in "exotic" places - now it's great that the internet and Stampboards in particular can fulfil the same role.

Please send me Ian's address and I will send him some nice Canadian and other worldwide stamps that I have on hand.

One of the things I was taught years ago by some of our local stamp and coin dealers was to give foreign coins and stamps to the Ottawa Boys and Girls club and have done so for 30 odd years.

Lots of new collectors have been started by doing this and they are our future customers and fellow collectors.

It also helps them grow and most of them get into a lot less trouble as they get older. This is not my opinion but that of the former executive director of the Boys and Girls club here in Ottawa, Canada.

Often when I get collections in albums, I remove what I want and give them all of those albums as well.

I do the same with coins, often getting Whitman and other brands of coin collecting albums, most of the time leaving a few coins in them and bringing them to the club for kids to get started collecting.

When we are doing appraisals, and we see collections that have little or no value, we have often suggested to the owners to donate their collections to the Boys and Girls club and some of them have done so.

Nice feeling to get kids started on collecting stamps and coins. :D

It certainly is nice to see a young boy enjoying postage stamps. I started at the same age...and the rest is history, as they say.

An envelope left today Rob!
Hope young Master Ian likes his start to an Australian Kangaroo Collection.

As I sort through more Ill put bits away as about 100 in an envelope isn't that expensive to send by post.

It is getting up there, he dwarfs my collection by a long shot, but then again my collection will be his collection. Poor guy has a lot of thank you cards to send off. I'll post some more pictures as he get his collection all put in order.

Rob, if you would like to send me your address by board e-mail I will try to find something that Ian would like.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted. World, Australia or New Zealand
are where I could help. I will send two of each, or two envelopes, so that dad can keep up.

Package arrived today Skilo, He will love them. I haven't seen the inside yet as Ian loves getting Mail and opening it is half the fun. Probably would have been here yesterday but it was a postal holiday for Columbus Day., I'll post pics later this week.

Thanks Skilo.

Hey stallzer, :)

I am glad to hear that it arrived safe and that your son will be opening it up! That is awesome! I hope the two of you enjoy the new additions, and working together cleaning them off paper!! Have Fun!

I'd love to see the package too, I have a small virtual collection of covers and parcels I have sent around the world. I try and get the recipient to scan them once they have arrived, and email me the image, or post it up on Stampboards. I really like seeing them after their journey!

Take Care,
Skilo54

Yes he did Erik. He loves finding his GB Stamps in the catalog and has taken a fond interest in Machins and he counts them every day or two to make sure his Sister hasn't swiped any :)

Nice choice on the Stamps Skilo with the Perregrine Falcon, we have only 2 themes that we are pursuing together. Birds of Prey and Aircraft.

Again Big thanks to:

There really is some neat stuff in there. There are a couple little tour guide books to the Paris Exposition of 1900, Maps, Hotel brochures from Germany turn of the Century, and a bunch of old deeds with some nice revenue Stamps.

Actually there is. He attended his first Stamp club meeting last month as we both joined our local Stamp club. The Twin cities Philatelic society also has a lifetime membership for a Family for $90.00 USD which is a pretty good bargain if you ask me, and we will be going that route after our first year of membership is up.

Ha!

Pray they do not get an Actuary in there - as signing up 10 year olds for life at $90 may not past muster. :)

Today the Postal system gave me the finger

Unfortunately 1 of Ian's thank you notes got the big RTS. So Anthony if you read this, please email me your correct mailing address because I seem to have screwed something up in the process of saving everyone's information.

Thanks, Rob & Ian

A belated reply as I just checked and found that I hadn't!

I received a very nice handwritten thankyou from Master Ian.
And I can't decide whether to put it in the world covers collection or the "happy thoughts" scrapbook!
(There's no room on the fridge!)

Thank you Ian. :D
