Hey there
I bought a box of "stuff", and there was 2 interesting items I've not seen before.

Thirlmere Railway - page of 8 min sheets overprinted SPECIMEN

XL Postal Strike 1981 Sheet of 100 MUH - not seen a full sheet before!

I'm not collecting these, they were always going to be sold on. A couple of questions -
1. Is there a market for this kind of material, and if so what sort of value are we talking?
2. How do I find those people who may be interested in purchasing? Is Stampboards a good starting point?!

Cheers guys

For the Railway 'stamps', there is quite a large collecting base for people interested in things to do with trains.

The Postal Strike sheet will be highly desirable to the right target audience.

There are collectors of both fields here, so I would suggest you could try Stampboards first, and see what happens. Just remember the 20/20 rule regards the Sales Forum

Thirlmere Railway issues were a bodgy Cinderella sold by sydneystampcentre for many years (search on that name here for some of his other stunts) and I am advised the monies raised from their sale went nowhere near them.

Someone will buy them I am sure as Trains are popular.

And the Strike labels are not often seen in sheets I agree.

That Railway stamp is a bit naughty.

In the UK there are numerous privately operated steam railways which issue railway letter stamps. They are obviously cinderella items but all revenues raised do go to defray the costs of operating the railway.

It appears that the Thirlmere Railway stamps imply the same when ( according to Glen ) they do not. By association people may infer the same about the UK railways when, as I have said it does not.

Most of the private railways are part of an association of railway preservation societies, and their web sites are linked -visit any of their sites of info. on railway letter service. Covers containing RL letter stamps and Royal Mail stamps for onward transmission where available can be bought from any of the companies stations.

Anyone interested in a sample website can visit my favourite - the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
