I know this seller, who is a very honest old dealer, and can guarantee all his sales are genuine items.

I wonder why he used the UK (Great Britain) site ?
Perhaps he is expecting the collectors in GB will bid up the stamp as it must have cost him a significent price to obtain the item.
If I didn't already own a copy I would be rushing to bid.
Obtaining a duplicate would be difficult to justify to my wife.

He didn't use the eBay UK site - he used the US one: www.ebay.com/itm/320919080994

I use eBay UK, so I got the link from there.

Hard to get with suitable pmk.

US$1200 is NZ$1573:

The economy must be biteing hard because there were no bids for the "2004 Festival of Arts" CAL offered on eBay USA.

The item was listed with a reserve of only US$1,200, which is well below the catalogue price of NZ$3,500.

This does not bode well for the entire stamp world, although some other rare stamps have been selling well. Maybe people with ready cash will be in the box seat as other "rare" and exotic philatelic lots are put on the market. It is a pity I am not cashed up to enjoy this opportunity.

I suspect that most folks aren't aware just how rare that particular cal stamp really is!

2012 is the 50th birthday of Tauranga & District Stamp Club Inc.
A jubilee history was commissioned & this book has been sold to members & other interested parties, plus earlier this month they held a birthday dinner.
On their numbered dinner menu they cancelled their commemorative CALS (one is self adhesive - the other is sheetlet) producing a limited edition item.
The one I have obtained is numbered "60" but I'm not aware of how many attended the function.

A beautiful FDC dated 2nd June,2012 featuring the old Post Office in Tauranga.
Note the custom circular date stamp produced specifically to record the Tauranga & District Stamp Club's 50 years. It pays to keep sweet with the postal authorities.

Wow,gummed and self adhesive, so they must of produced two thousand stamps, what are they going to do with all those ! especially with the change of postage going up to 70c in a couple of weeks.

Nice stamps though, and thanks for posting the images.

They'll just buy lots of 10c stamps, and use them for the next few years on their newsletters!

Indeed an excellent production.
We do not see many genuinely used blocks of CALs so it interesting to see this block that came through the mail as registered international mail.

Image

Are there other examples of large used blocks of CALs??

I've just discovered an amazing error in the cals:

Image

This is the 2009 self-adhesive booklet celebrating the 30th anniversary of Maui Gas supplying gas to most of NZ.

They asked NZ Post to print this attractive booklet, with ten different cals in it.

I was about to offer this booklet on Trademe, but glancing inside, I was gobsmacked to see that the diecut pseudo-perforations (where you peel off the stamp) are askew by approx 7 mm.

This means that each stamp you peel out will miss the left portion of the design, and not quite reach the next stamp but have a huge wide margin at the right!

It may be hard to see in the scan here, so I have added light blue marks at the left of the photo to show where the perfs actually are. (I haven't actually drawn on the booklet itself.)

So could this be one of a big run of errors? Or possibly a unique error?

I have not heard of this error prior to now, and urge folks who have this booklet to check their one.

My booklet has the self adhesive cuts in the correct places.
I also have a 2009 sealed pack with its Maui booklet inside, but am reluctant to open the pack to look.

Seems like you have one that was mis-alligned.
Could be worth a bit, however the number of CAL collectors is fairly small, so you would need to find one with deep pockets -
not many Kiwi's who meet that criteria when purchasing (only when selling).

I really recommend you open the pack and check your booklet. It's only a self-adhesive round dot, that will easily gum back in place when you re-seal it!

Gosh, I thought ALL cal-collectors have deep pockets! How else do they afford cal Number One, and the Tibet Flag cals? :D

Sorry for the bad quality of the pics, but at least the design is visible.

As an answer to my own question  , I just found them in Stampmogul's list on page 1 of this thread: :)

I think the denomination of #269 is a typo - all of the stamps before and after it have a denomination of 60c not 50c.

No, there were both 50c & 60c cals of the Judy Nicholls.

Price of inland post here has just raised to 70c, so presumably a new raft of cals with that value will emerge now.

I have to apologise for the error in my list.
The Judy Nicholls "Bayleys Real Estate" 50¢ CAL issued on 18th July,2007 is No.42.
That CAL re-issued as a 60¢ in November,2010 is No.269.
I didn't adequately proof read my list.
Sorry.

Great and informative thread! Thanks to all the knowlegable posters!

I have an interest in getting material relating to the Lambretta scooter cal issue so if anyone finds anything please let me know at gavinnz@xtra.co.nz

I have some pictures of the Lambretta cal at my flicker site. http://www.flickr.com/photos/59346333@N ... 8141992497

and if you click "next" at the top right of the image on the flicker page it will go to a signed FDC, then a rare signed proof and the more common NZ post cover.

Regards
Gavin

The late Tim Chadwick produced 100 FDCs of his "Orange Lambretta Post" back in 2009. They were available for less than $20, however I have not seen one offered for sale for at least a year.
Tim's earlier production of the "beetle" numbered 250 FDCs and they are much more readily available.

Tim was sadly killed in a motor crash. (Which I guess just goes to show that he really WAS an enthusiastic motorist, not just a philatelist keen on them!)

I traded stamps with him by mail, and he really enjoyed cinderellas. He worked as an art teacher at a high school in Taranaki. I will try to trace the nice cal covers he sent me; he also traded me a few complete sheets of his cals, in exchange for some of mine.

This was our CAL issued on Dec 1st 2011. It is for my partner importing company Intracor. We had covers printed up locally. We are thinking of printing a new one later on this year as the postage rate has increased

Princestamps,
I want to get in touch with you, however you do not have an email address listed as part of your Stampboards profile.

If you have a spare FDC to sell or exchange, please email me.

Thanks,

A new CAL promoting the national stamp exhibition to be held in Blenheim in October this year.
The relationship a beaver has with a small tiny town excapes me and I would appreciate a more knowledgable stampboards member explaining the relevance.

How many ardent stamp collectors reside in the Blenheim district ? At least they have 3 caravan parks, with another reasonably adjacent to cater for visitors.
The town would not be a prime candidate for a large stamp fair, so would obviously appreciate all the publicity possible.

Mr Joseph Inneo, a keen Melbourne philatelist, decided to celebrate his engagement to Miss Lucy Dias of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2009.

Since Australia does not do cals, Joe obtained cals from NZ. There were no FDCs, and few were ever used in NZ, though Joe affixed lots on his outgoing mail alongside Australian stamps!

Image

The happy couple were married in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Saturday, 7th May 2011.

To celebrate, Joe organized a special 60c "personalised stamp" (or cal, as the posties call them) featuring "cartoon" portraits of the happy couple, drawn by the renowned Brazillian cartoonist Anthony de Mello.

It had first day on the day before the wedding: Friday 6th May 2011. This day was the 171st anniversary of the issue of the world's first postage stamp, the "Penny Black" featuring Queen Victoria, by the U.K. on 6th May 1840.

Only 1,000 of this cal were printed. For the First Day Cover, only 100 covers were done; each has its number stamped on the back. The FDCs were specially printed in Belgium as Joe found the Australian printers too greedy.

Image
TOP: Mint single cal, imperf-between proof pair.
BOTTOM: A first day cover, with imperf-between proof pair and normal cal.

Each cover has an imperf-between "Proof" pair, plus a single stamp, postmarked at Auckland. The reverse of the FDC has its number stamped on it, plus a cinderella stamp "Joe + Lucy FOREVER" which is cancelled by a black "Republic of My Heart" circular marking.

I still have a few of these (as I acted as Joe's NZ agent to get the FDCs serviced, since he was already en route to Rio on issue day.) Anybody wanting some is welcome to contact me: can trade for mint sets of "new issues" of commems of your land.

The business, Hang-up Entertainment Services, has only just produced the 60¢ issues and already the letter rate in New zealand has increased to 70¢.
Back in January,2010 their original CAL came out with the then letter rate of 50¢.
You might think from the image that the business was entertainment, however they provide rigging & lighting equipment to concerts, roadshow theatrical events, etc.

Is this a first ?

The US Government has commissioned a booklet of stamps to be issued in New Zealand, commemorating 70 years since their troops arrived there in 1942.
The entire stock of the 10 x 70¢ stamp booklets will be supplied to the US Government. I have no indication of issued number.

Fortunately for collectors, the NZ Philatelic Bureau will be including the booklet in their annual pack to be released in March or April next year.

The new booklet provided for the US marines 70th anniversary in NZ has ten different stamps.
This makes it on a par with the NZ Customs Dept Booklet (they commemorated 170 years), and the Maui/Shell booklet with ten images of the off-shore oil & gas wells.

Here is a pre-view of two of the Marines stamps.

Appears to be two marines with girls of the "land Army"
With many men away at the front, the women of many nations joined the older men & undertook work at home such as on the land, producing necessary food.

Seems to be units of marines marching through the streets in a parade.

The very innocent act of sharing a conversation over a milk shake.

A more popular activity for older males of the era - in the bar of a hotel (or perhaps a Naafi wet canteen).
NAAFI stood for "Navy, Army, Air Force Institute".(British Cwth).
The Marines had "MCX" - Marine Corp exchange, similar to their Army based PX (post exchange "canteen").

I think stamp "F" would more correctly be titled "Hiring a hooker."

This part of yankee activity was what made them so detested by many Kiwis.

I had missed a pair of CALs released in May designed by the United States embasy in Auckland.
They were of 60¢ values, and issued for the 70th anniversary of the arrival of marines in New Zealand (back in 1942).

As I have not seen either stamp, I can only state they are supposed to represent both of the the flags of USA & NZ.

It is assumed that all the stock would have been supplied direct to the US Embassy, and the public will be unlikely to see any mint copies. There is no word if any FDCs were produced.
We will have to wait for the annual pack next year for our stamps.

The USA embassy is in WELLINGTON, NZ's capital city.

In Auckland, they do however have a large and busy consulate.

I wonder which one bought the cals?

But my picture did not go next to your request to view, so appeared out of context to the overall thread
However
Yes you were right in saying they were a PAIR not a Booklet
If you look closely you will see the two stamps in the set are quite different

Image

So they were just issued as single stamps

A new CAL promoting the national stamp exhibition to be held in Blenheim in October this year.
The relationship a beaver has with a small tiny town excapes me and I would appreciate a more knowledgable stampboards member explaining the relevance.

How many ardent stamp collectors reside in the Blenheim district ? At least they have 3 caravan parks, with another reasonably adjacent to cater for visitors.
The town would not be a prime candidate for a large stamp fair, so would obviously appreciate all the publicity possible.

At last I discovered the relationship to a Beaver.
Blenheim was previously known (back in the 1850's) as Beaver Station. This was due to the frequent floods, and as the locals became tired about the jokes involving "flooding" & "Beaver" they petitioned for a more dignified name, which occurred in 1859.
The provincial capital, which had been at Picton until 1866, was awarded to Blenheim.

Another nice used example of the 2011 Woodworking conference held in Christchurch last year.
The design was also used as a personal tab.

Details on the Protectus CAL, taken from their web site at

http://collectorssupplies.co.nz/Home_Page.php

I can thoroughly recommend Dave for all your philatelic needs

60¢ value
First date of issue 18th June 2011 and first postally used 20th June 2011
Print run of 1000 with 50 used on FDC's.
The design is the same as the illustrated 70¢ below

*UPDATE*
On July 1st 2012 NZ Post increased the price of postage from 60c to 70c. As we still had 12 sheets of 60c stamps unused/unsold, they kindly agreed to the 60c sheets being returned and reprinted with a 70c denomination.
This means that the print run of the 60c denomination is now only 400.
Of the 400 stamps printed, 50 were used on first day covers and 125 were sold in mint condition to collectors, the remainer (225) were postally used.

70¢ value
First date of issue 14th July 2012 and first postally used 16th July 2012
Print run of 600.

I also show with delight the large used block. Used blocks are very rare.

An excellent cover with a variety of both official and non-official CALs.
A fine cover to commemorate the special 12 12 12 postmark date.
Nicely done.

The December,2012 Pampas Heights Deer Farm.
This Christmas 70¢ CAL is the latest of six (6) issued for the Deer Farm.

In 2012 a number of uprated CALs have been released due to the increased NZ postage rate.
They include:-
Bayleys Real Estate (Judy Nicholls) - same design as the previous 50¢ and 60¢ issues.
Trademark Zone - with the same logo as on the 60¢ CAL.
Carestream Health - showing an X-ray scanner 70¢ is a revaluation of the earlier 60¢ stamp.
