Well, I am pleased to say that Australia 2013 received 20% more entries than we could fit in the frames. The biggest exhibition frame wise since Washington 2006 [3600 frames], Australia 2013 has found extra space to increase the number of frames being accepted to 3400 frames.. [London 2010 had 2400; Indonesia 2012 had 2200; Philanippon 2011 had 2500]

This is especially pleasing considering there were a number of people believing that the current economic climate with the Euro collapsing that we would not get the numbers.

Not only are the numbers good but so are the Exhibits of a very high class. Again not since Washington has there been such a high number of top class exhibits.

For instance we have 13 Championship Class Entries, including 2 from Australia. [ To enter this class you need 3 FIP Large gold medals].

We have some of the best Colonial material to come to Australia since 1999, especially in Tasmania and Western Australia.

So I suggest you start making your bookings now.

For those of us who applied to exhibit, it would be nice to know if we have been accepted.

This will happen as soon as it is possible to do. This is all being done by volunteers. As with all large events there are procedures to be followed.

The list needs FIP approval [hopefully end of this month]; there needs to be a check done as this is no small number of entries. There are 14 Classes and 4 of those classes has 4 sub-classes.

Some figures are, there were over 820 individual entries, over 4000 frames. One frame exhibits cover 8 sub-classes. There are 4 sub-classes each in Traditional and Postal History and it is necessary to ensure some evenness in numbers for Jury teams.

I am sure exhibitors want the best done for there exhibit.

Another fact is there are over 55 Overseas Commissioners to be notified.

The committee do realise that exhibitors want to know sooner than later and as an exhibitor myself I do understand.

I can now advise that all Australian entrants have received notification about their entries.

All overseas Commissioners will be advised in the next 7 days of acceptance.

As you can imagine this has been a rather large exercise with 3400 frames or in simple terms it will be 56400 pages of material that is needed to be mounted at the exhibition.

3400 Frames is amazing Gary .. that is 6800 frame sides of stamps correct?

Visitors will need a spare pair of shoes as the first one will wear out walking down the lines of stamps!

56,400 of top quality content album pages is mind boggling.

I might merge this with the other thread so we keep all info in one place as we get closer.

3400 is the number of frame sides. 1700 frames in total.

Ha!

A North Shore pal here assured me Friday it was "3400 frames, i.e. 6800 sides, and I want you to write that down and use it Mate"

I'll go with your version, as I am sure that is right. 8)

What you forgot to mention was that in order to make room for these extra frames, a number of dealers who had previously BOOKED and PAID FOR stands in good positions have been shunted to the 'middle of nowhere' in the hall. As a consequence three of these dealers have since dropped out of the Show.

Current Floor Plan
Image

As can be seen the frames extension is at the bottom of the hall, under 2 Gallery levels, left and right with rows of pillars in between, [NOTE: all those small black squares are pillars] unsuitable for blocks of dealer stands as they are the furthest from the front door, pillars would have been in the middle of the stands.

All dealers are in the central corridors, with non-premium stands being orange ones, I believe these are the ones you are referring too. All stands have NO Pillars, all having central walkways, etc while the Exhibitors are in less desirable areas.

It should also be mentioned that it was necessary to change the floor plan for Fire Safety Reasons as the Exhibition Buildings had knocked back earlier versions because of these safety reasons.

I can't see what's wrong with the dealer locations as shown. "Middle of nowhere" to me would be tables packed into a corner of the hall, not centrally located as they are now.

And the fire requirements that have to be met would relate to maintaining the fire egress width and routes to fire doors in the building. Those are mandatory statutory requirements and are not open to amendment.

I have seen an excellent exhibit on Royal Visits to India beginning from 1887 which want an entry in Australia 2013.But unfortunately it was a new entry and has not been exhibited in any national exhibition earlier(The last exhibition was held in 2008).Hence this was rejected.

The exhibit is worthy of showing in Australia 2013 with the country having strong link to Royalty. And i am sure it will win good grade.

Can any member help him in getting the refusal reconsidered.By the way he is also a member of Stampboards.

Thanks.

I do not intend to discuss either of the previous posts but do want to outline generally how decisions are made when an exhibition need to "cull" 4000 frames down to 3400 in this case.
Firstly an exhibit needs to have a National Exhibition Vermeil level medal or in extreme circumstances exceptions can be made and are in fact made.
Secondly there needs to be a certain % of first time exhibitors and first time exhibits.
Thirdly there is a need for a balance on numbers from each country.
Lastly and an important point is there must be a good average of exhibits from each of the 14 Classes at the Exhibition. A Jury, in this case numbering over 50 is split into teams and no one team should have too heavy a workload. When you get this number of frames applied for one class can in itself be oversubscribed. This did happen with A2013. A lot not accepted were in Postal History because of this reason. I have probably said more than I should have but I like to explain the process.
I might add it took the Adjudication committee two full days and two weeks of emails back and forth to get down to the 3400 frames.

Below is old floor plan showing where Aust Post had a stand 90. [Has now been moved into the Full AP stand] and the Youth Area [ now has been moved to the APF Collectors Corner to which the APF has provided sponsorship of $20,000 for this and other matters.
Image

The New Plan below shows the 200 frames replacing the Youth and Stand 90. No dealers stands are effected by the placing of these frames in this position.

Image

Furthermore from the picture below taken from the middle of where the Dealer Stands are situated is to your left a view of the Area under the Gallery with all the pillars where the frames will be. The ARROW in the picture is where dealer stands are.

Image

Same for the other end of the building. Again a view from dealer stands to underneath where frames are, again with pillars.

Here we go with letting people know the 13 championship Class entries for Australia 2013. As I said before this is the largest CC class since Washington 2006 and in Australia since 1984 !!

They are listed in Country order as will every class listing in the A2013 Catalogue with Aussies first.

Showing my Victorian Colours here.

The following Victorian firms are FULLY supporting their "local show".

Leski Auctions
H.W. Wood Australia
Scientific Document Services
Blue Owl Stamps Pty
Max Stern
Richard Juzwin Pty
Phoenix Auctions Pty
Premier Postal
Stamp News
Shields Stamps
Downie's Coins Pty

Also should note that the Victorian Philatelic Council have sponsored the A2013 App for Iphone or Samsung/etc that will be available prior to the show which we believe is a first for any big stampshow in the world. MORE info to follow.

It is great to see this type of committment and together with the heeps of volunteer manhours being put in the show, Australians should be proud what Australia 2013 is achieving.

iPhone and Android phone apps are certainly a great idea.

There are so many things that can be done using them, from simply showing a map of how to get to the building, seminar timetables, listing up when important things are happening, etc., etc.

Exactly Tony.
Expect to have all you mention above.
VPC have sponsored it to the tune of $13500.00.

Good news stories are what A2013 is all about.

Amazing - dealer stands close soon and numbers have come out of the woodwork both Aussie dealers and overseas dealers and a couple of overseas administrations.

It looks very much like ALL stands will be sold, may have to find room for a couple more

Full steam ahead with the largest Stamp Exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere or Asia ever.

Just a query on behalf of a couple of people who put their hand up last year to assist at the event - neither have heard anything since. Will there be a general information send-out to the volunteers prior to May?

Jenny, I am in the process of contacting clubs in the next week or so about volunteers. Can I email you for the Geelong Club.

Don't worry I haven't forgotten, just snowed under. Never believed it would be so many emails each day to answer....

Send to me and I'll make sure they get them - we have our first meeting on Saturday, but I can notify them any time.

Thanks for that - I thought you *might* be a bit busy. Emails still beat having to lick stamps :P

All 92 stands now sold. 1 is on waiting list.

So much much for Doomsayers in the trade.

Well there will always be some in any business. :)

As I typed in my column last month, any dealer here with any visibility at all, who does not have a stand, has missed the best chance for 30 years to make an impression, and consolidate their global client base.

Too late to get back in now, and talk about shoot yourself in BOTH feet. :)

As he's typed 1000 times on Stampboards, Glen "doesn't do" eBay or fairs. He has his website, which appears to get a fair bit of traffic (it's how I discovered Stampboards, years ago), despite those who say its garish.

As (1) I have never in 35 years as a dealer bothered with shows as Aethelwulf mentions, and (2) I literally can't handle the amount of business I have now, so do not need more.

I am in your city Adelaide right now, and yesterday sold a ROOM of stamps - 35 cartons of it - 100s of albums - to a local member here, as I am too busy to even think of touching it -

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=43987

Successful dealers never need to chase stamp material and estates - it chases them. 8)

However stampboards will certainly be there with a table, and a dinner, and a meeting, and that will keep me plenty busy.

I have provided substantial financial support to the show, written about it globally for many full pages in magazines and offer board support for it here.

I suspect the sum total of your support for this show could be engraved on the head of a very small pin, but you are welcome to prove me wrong.

Still can't understand why some leading stamp dealers in Melbourne opted out of paying for a stand.

Yes it's a bit expensive compared to a National Show but this is a World Stampshow and that's what has attracted a number of top level dealers from the UK, the USA, etc.

Pretty shortsighted of them not to take the opportunity in my view.

To be really Aussie, this little beaut's gonna be bloody big!

Just checked my diary and I'll be there, a weekend in between assignments for once. Any news of a Stampboarders get together yet, or that's still in the air?

Ben - you posted on the wrong thread - you need thisbelow for stampboards presence, and get-togethers, and assistance on the stand etc -

Add your comment there perhaps.
