Here is the front and back of a registered package I recently received from Argentina that used a number of SS on it:

These are not commercially used; they are First Day Covers that GreenGo included in his mail. But I thought it would be nice to show them. They have lovely cancels to match the theme of the SS. Slovenia is also issuing small SS, compared to the monster ones put out by other countries, which are more likely to be used by the public on regular mail.

Canada Stamper sent me this wonderfully franked cover with two Souvenir Sheets - one with the Chinese Lunar Calendar and the other one of the Beneficial Insects Souvenir Sheets (the one I didn't have :D) Thank you very much Canada Stamper!

Amongst the contents of Canada Stamper's cover were some additional gems to add to my Souvenir Sheets commercially used on Cover collection.
One from Italy, memorializing the War of Independence, Taking of Rome, and WWI
Image

The second one is a registered cover from Poland, with 2 souvenir Sheets used on the cover:
The first SS commemorates the Radom Czerwiec uprising/protests of June 1976 against the ruling Communist party for the price increases the centralised government was implementing. There were nearly 100 factories on strike and thousands of people protesting. Many were arrested and mistreated in the police retaliation. But this marks the beginning of organized uprisings against communism that would eventually lead to Poland's freedom from Communist rule and Lech Valesa's place in history.
Image

The second SS commemorates the General Congress of the Polish Philatelic Show.

Received this very attractive SS from GreenGo. Issued last year in celebration of the 20th jubilee of Slovenia independence. I like the red, white and blue...as we are coming up on our own Independence Day celebration. But due to very dry weather and lack of funds, many cities are nixing any fireworks...including Chicago. So I guess I'll stay home and just make my own...
Image
What you can't see in the scan is the copper metal used as gilding on some of the flowers, which really makes the SS pop!

Sorry, technical glitch/user error on earlier post. Here's the image that goes with the comments about the 20th Jubilee of Slovenia Independence:

I participate on the monthly cover exchange here on SB and for the June exchange Teja sent me these very nice covers from Slovenia.

The first cover depicts Goricko Regional Park, part of a three-nation zone of parks comprised of Orseg National Park in Hungary and Raab National Park in Austria. The park takes its name from the gorice, the local word for the little hills that long ago emerged at the bottom of the Pannonian Sea. The park covers and area of 462sq.km, reaching just 418 meters above sea level at its highest point. The area features wetlands and wet meadows, fields producing a variety of plants, forests, an intricate network of waterways, lakes and ponds, low hills and vineyards.
Image

The second SS depicts the craft of pottery and farm architectural heritage. Pottery was the most common domestic craft in the Prekmurje region but developed two unique styles of decoration and firing which are pictured. One is the Filovci and the other Goricko. Filovci pottery is known for the black fired potery which was impermeable and ideal for storing or carrying water while the Premurje pottery was most commonly used for cooking in a bread oven or as glazed dishware. The black-fired or pütra pottery is prized as a souvenir.

Hi Timbres,

I am glad to see that this 'nageljcek' finally reach you.
As you see it has been on the way since 21th of June,
and that you have received other newly issued SS from Slovenia.

Enjoy.

Green Go has again provided some beautiful souvenir sheets from Slovenia:
This first one is one of only two poisonous snake species found as a native in Slovenia. It is by appearance, a viper, which picks up on its prey by smell. Even though it is highly poisonous, it is a protected species as it is now endangered. This stamp was issued in 2010.
Image

This second SS is one issued for this year's philatelic exhibition. Maribor was chosen as the capital of European culture for this year and as part of the cultural program, the stamp exhibition was made and this SS especially issued.
Image

Thanks again GreenGo!

Here's the recent SS issued by Great Britain for the 2012 Olympics..and how nice for it not to be so high in value that it will likely be used in a good number of mailings. Received this from the SB monthly cover exchange member JohnEboy.

Nasia,

For me the first post from Czech Republic and India do not show your scans. In your most current post, the one from Taiwan does not show.

Let's see what happens. Maybe it's me.

I'm chuffed it got there OK, and it was entirely postally correct for the weight, hence the extra butterfly at the side!

Looks good!

Isn't it overpaid by 4p? £3.90 is the rate for zone 2, zone 1 (inc USA) is £3.86 for that weight step.

Jean,

The SS you posted actually consists of 4 stamps....it has been cut on your cover. To see the full SS, look at my posting of 23 May.

Hmm. In that case I may just soak it off and give the stamp to Naomi, there are no pen marks on the stamp itself...or just give her the whole thing, the baby puffins are cute and Naomi probably won't care. :D

Thanks Tim.

Interestingly, the sender has written "S.Rücks" where the stamp(s) should normally be - this is obviously shorthand for "siehe Rückseite" - "see reverse" in English - which seems to be how the sender 'got away with' fixing the postage to the 'wrong' side. I wonder how many other post offices around the world would bee so accommodating...?!

Here's an earlier example...

1945, to be precise. Germany, Soviet Zone local issue for Wittenberg-Lutherstadt.

Technically, these sheets were not authorised for postage, being classified as "private issues".

They are known with a commemorative cancel / cto, but this one is unusual in that it is on cover and cancelled in Oberwiesenthal, some 250-300km from Wittenberg (although in the same postal region - OPD)

The addressee is a stamp-dealer so I suspect that this was concocted between the dealer and the postmaster, although it "almost" fits the theme of this thread.

I think it's rather interesting Gavin, even if it is a "fantasy" SS. I certainly wouldn't toss it in the bin if it landed on my desk. Thanks for showing it.

Here's a nice SS used on cover from Brazil of Marine Fauna. It also has a comical strip of cat stamps used for postage. The sender left the selvedge attached making the cover more interesting (we all know what happens when cats and fish encounter.....)

Here's another Brazilian SS with the Tijuca National Park, a beautiful tropical park paradise in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The sender also chose to use a decorative cover that is certainly an enticing scene in as the weather gets colder (at least here in the US)

The two stamps below the SS depict a Brazilian folklore - issued this year.

This year Brazil also sponsored the United Nations conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro. This is the SS issued commemorating that event. This cover also has used the fabric stamp of the Corinthians FC celebrating their 100th year.

Thank you Tanuki for this little gem received today. The darker sand in the dunes is actual sand. You can just make out the texture on the scan. Very interesting.

A Peony SS used on cover from Slovenia sent by SB member GreenGo. Thanks GreenGo. Now that the cold of winter is upon us, it's nice to reflect on the beauty of summer past and look forward to the one upcoming!
