I like to trade stamps, and I'd like to share some of the lovely stamps I've gotten (and will receive) from trading friends.

No agenda other than to share some nice pictures, find other collectors with similar interests, and maybe make some new trading friends!

I'll also try to post some of the stamps I send out as well. If you see anything you like, contact me as I may have more.

Here is the letter - ready to go except it needs an additional 1c postage. Hopefully it will arrive safely.

The Azerbaijan are pretty obviously soaked off FDCs, but how else to get 'used' (more accurately, 'postmarked' or 'cancelled') stamps from a country like that? :!: I remember going through the price list of Swan Philatelic Imports, a major kiloware dealer in the USA, a few years ago, and for small places like Vatican City, they advised that their kiloware offerings were in fact mostly from clipped FDCs.

Do get into collecting covers; its the next step along the road of philately. Everyone starts as a collector, filling gaps in a printed album, or assembling stamps showing a thematic; then you move on to being a philatelist, adding postal history, imperfs, proofs and other printer/archive material.

Soaked off the envelope, used stamps are used stamps. You've neatly arranged the frankings on your letters, and things like the blocks of birds look quite nice on a neat small-size cover. I used to send covers to a UK collector franked with all the new issues in HK, and would delve into my box of stationery to find nice coloured/textured envelopes, it adds some 'spice' to the album page. 8)

I've received letters over the years franked with Europa stamps that I've been loathe to soak off the envelope. When I get a chance I'll scan some of them. I have been thinking about starting something new - this may be just the thing.

And you're right about the Azerbaijan Europa - in fact, many of my "used" Europa stamps from the smaller countries are CTO, it's otherwise almost impossible to find used stamps.

To follow up on some of the posts above, I dug around and found some covers that I've saved over the years that I liked for various reasons, some from traders and some from other sources. I'll post some of the nicer ones...

A dragon from China on a pre-printed envelope with additional stamps, and 3 different red hand chops - 1 for airmail, the other 2 for "printed matter"?? Sent to my dad in Canada.

When I started this thread, it was intended to be related to stamp trading, but I think I'm going to go with Wikipedia's definition of "Trading Post":

Trading posts were also places for people to meet and exchange the news of the world or simply the news from their home country

So, it will be a thread for stamp trading and also for me to share some stamp news with you all that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with stamp trading... :)

Here's an interesting cover, sent within Quebec, Canada:

Image

These stamps were issued in 2003. Canada Post printed 50,000 sheets specifically for the Alaska cruise ship season. The sheet includes 10 self-adhesive die-cut stamps plus 3 non-postage labels. The white spaces on the stamps and labels could be personalized with a photo. The only place you could buy the sheets was on board a cruise ship (or ordered through Canada Post directly), where the staff would also produce your photo on the spot. The stamps were valid for postage anywhere in the world and sold for $12.50/sheet (international rate was $1.25 in 2003), or $19.95 personalized.

Image

Interestingly, this cover not only has the 2 postage stamps, but also the 3 non-postage labels, and all have been cancelled! You can distinguish the label from the stamp with the same design by the margin inscription "Postage Paid".

Lovely cover from Naomi arrived today: :D :D :D :D :D

Image

But those Canadian Santas have absolutely no idea how to harness a Boomer for an Australian run:

Image

And a nice home-made card inside. Ya! I know that kangaroo: 8) 8)

Image

But I'm a bit worried about the way that beaver is eyeing off the kangaroo's tail ... especially with its teeth at the ready: :? :?

Image

This will all go in my Kangaroo collection ... very much appreciated.

Hans - glad it arrived safely. I could have sworn the post office clerk missed the top stamp with her cancel, but she must have gone back after I left and cancelled it again carefully just on the edge.

And, based on that hat, I do believe that's meant to be an Australian Santa!

That beaver does have a hungry glint in his eye, doesn't he? Hadn't noticed that!

That's a pretty good 'Roo drawing on the cover, better than I can do.

My stockbook of HK duplicates is starting to get 'thin'; all the stamps I use on mail/parcels to relatives eventually float back to me, but I've been giving them away when I can. I'll see what I could dig up that's animalistic ( ); can't think of much that's been done here along those lines though. Trains, bridges...oh, birds! The long defin set is all birds.

Send me an email with your address and I'll send off some bits 'n bobs.

Thanks heaps.

The Polka Dot Roo on the return label also featured on a card inside ... very nice and much appreciated.

Thanks to you and the many others on Stampboards who have posted very generous offers for young collectors. Ok, but if anyone she trades with for her topicals wants any Canada used from any era or about 350 US from the 50's 60's and 70's, let me know via e-mail or on that thread. I don't care if she uses them for trading for topicals she wants. That's all just part of stamp collecting. Couldn't hurt to have a handy 1100 stamps for trading.

Wish I could draw like that

Have some more stamps to send you Naomi in the next couple of weeks.

Hope you are still having fun collecting stamps

Have some more stamps to send you Naomi in the next couple of weeks.

Hope you are still having fun collecting stamps

Thanks Anne,

Naomi has been sorting through all the stamps that everyone so kindly sent her. I bought her a big stock book and her own tongs, and she is organizing them by country. There are so many stamps, she's not even halfway through, so no hurry to send more, thanks.

We have also been soaking the ones that were on paper - those Australia ones are a bit tricky to get off, but we managed (except for one which we ripped, oops!! ). I had a couple of heart shaped self-adhesive from France that we tried to soak - those were nearly impossible. Anyone know a trick for those? I think we will leave any future ones on the paper.

Thanks again to everyone who sent Naomi stamps! :D :D :D

Here are some lovely used Art stamps from France that I received in a trade recently:

I collect these both MNH and used - one of these days I'll get around to making some album pages to display these nicely.

Nice hand cancel and no annoying jet spray thanks to Canada Post's manual sorting! :) :)

These came a while ago from a friend in Israel, but I'm just getting around to sorting them now - my "to do" pile is too large!! :)

The apparent duplicates are perforated and die-cut versions of the same design.

The 4 stamps in the 6th row are from a sheet of 15 different stamps, issued Nov 2010 on the topic of Animation:

Some of the stamps are easy to tell apart, but for some of them it's like the puzzles for kids where you have to find the small differences between the pictures... :?
