If you have any stamps depicting trains or anything related to the railway system, you may share your scans here. To get the ball rolling, I'll show you mine:

Many years we made a journey on the legendary Ghan train. A stamp showing the Train had issued just a few weeks earlier on 1 June 1993. So I took along a few Ghan stamps and prepared souvenir covers using envelopes supplied on the Train. I duly obtained the pictorial The Ghan train postmark on the day of arrival in Alice Springs (Northern Territory) on 6 July 1993.

Eleven years later, on 7 September 2004 the famous Train got another showing on a stamp of Australia. So I hunted around for my covers and off they went to get the dual treatment, a first day of issue pictorial postmark.

I don't collect Train stamps. But have made all the long-distance train journeys of Australia.
This is a rather personal souvenir of a memorable train trip through the centre of Australia.

Technically it is a "presentation pack" - and if I had bought it I would have immediately rejected the torn 31p stamp and had it replaced by the seller (PO if that is where it was bought from!)

Not so serious but I promise to contribute some trains from my album before long.

While looking at what I am missing from my NZ collection I saw this one issued in 2005. The set was commemorating community organisations:

I have always liked Austrian stamps and recent issues still impress me. He is one from 2009:

It celebrates 120 Years of the Drösing-Zistersdorf local railway. Can anyone throw any light on the type of locomotive?

Trains really look good on stamps, especially the older trains. Almost makes me want to start a topical on trains. :D

On to an Australian Territory now. Christmas Island has issued a number of stamps featuring trains. Although there is no railway now there was, at least, a narrow gauge network and a standard gauge system which served the phosphate mines.

I have two stamps, from a set of three, issued in 1994 some years after the lines were closed. Perhaps someone else has the $1.20 stamp.

Image Image

My research showed only six locomotives (numbered 1-6) so I am not sure about the 95c stamp featuring no. 9. It looks like it could be a narrow gauge shunting engine but I am not sure.

The 85c features a 4-4-4 Shay locomotive (one of three) and it is most unusual to find this type of engine outside of the United States.

Nice Marcel

If this thread is to include trams as well as trains (and I am happy with that) then you might like to look at http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10448.

Here is a stamp from a tourism issue (set of four) in 2009. Although the stamp is Indonesian the train is from Singapore as it was a joint issue.

The location is Sentosa Island and the vehicle called the Beach Tram runs on a light rail system.

These are fantastic, Pat. I've never seen them before. I can practically hear Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" playing as I look at the design of that middle one with the railroad engineers. Brilliant! :D

The Ghan has been featured before and I have repeated those items here. Following the stamp and sheetlet I have added an aerial photo of the train. The area is unusually green but it gives a good idea of the type of country traversed in Central Australia. At the moment the train cannot run because the track has been washed away by floods.

I thought that members would be interested in this image from the BBC News web-site.

The caption is:
A road junction at the Elephant and Castle, south London, June 1912. Wonderful - cars, buses, a horse-drawn delivery van and both single deck and double decker trams :!:

The 2 cent stamp is unique to USA postage !
It is the only stamp ever issued showing a woman with bare breasts.
(I bet you are all taking a closer look !)

Hi all
How about these unusual ones from Nicaragua - I have quite a few of these, but they do take quite a bit of space up in the album (each stamp incl. the perfs is approx. 62 x 45mm) :!: [Imageimg][/img]

Rivas is in a very beautiful part of Nicaragua, a narrow isthmus between the Pacific and Lake Nicaragua. It first came into prominence when it was considered as a site for a canal, before the Panama option came about.

Some East German trains in all their glory, Michel 2414-2417. I particularly like the one carrying the trabants.
