After many, many years I finally collect all Railway stamp sets of
LEADERS OF THE WORLD series, at least I think I did.

I have more than 70 different of those sets in my collection,
and now I would like to share those images with all of you railway fans.

I have in plan to post here one big and quality scan per day.

So this will keep me busy for months.

Please feel free to add your comments.

I am going to help myself with this thematic catalogue:

Stanly Gibbon's - Collect Railways on stamps (2nd edition, 1990)

As you know Leaders of the World stamps come in pairs.
The first stamp in each pair shows technical drawings and the second the locomotive at work.

Let me start with this one.
Grenadines of St.Vincent
1984

1st set of 8 pairs
values: 5c, 10c, 15c, 35c, 45c, 60c, $1, $2.50

Hi, GreenGO,

There is a long and interesting discussion on the LoW stamps here:

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=36299

Whatever the history of these stamps, and whatever is said elsewhere, I do think these are very attractive stamps - I like the "sketch" and "scene" pairs and the perspectives they show.

That was a very LONG but interesting thread gavin-h. The human race will never change! There will always be another "episode" somewhere!

I'm still interested in seeing your stamps GreenGo. I think they look lovely.

I like it GreenGo! Interesting that you should end your display of this series with the "Blue Peter" :D

There's an error on that stamp: that engine is a 2-10-4, not a 2-8-4 as stated on the stamp.

2 bogie-wheels leading; 10 driven wheels; 4 bogie-wheels following

Probably why it's a class E10

No matter what people said about the LOW issue, I always like the design.

While I was scaning that 1948 Japanese class E10 (2-8-4T) :?:
I noticed that something is not right there.
Thank you guys to confirm to me that there is a mistake in description.

To ALL members on ALL threads please bear this in mind.

Be aware if you use full captions, google picks up EVERY post so others will find your thread!

i.e. if this appears 20 times in a thread google will make this thread number search match -

"Leaders Of The World" Railway stamp issues

If it occurs once, they rank it much lower. So I changed heading from

"My L.o.W. Railway collection"

For the same reasons. Never abbreviate - google does not 'see' it then.

So if you type -

Grenadines of St.Vincent
1984 "Leaders Of The World" Railway stamp issues
2nd set of 8 pairs
values: 1c, 5c, 20c, 35c, 60c, $1, $1.50, $3

and not just this -

Grenadines of St.Vincent
1984
2nd set of 8 pairs
values: 1c, 5c, 20c, 35c, 60c, $1, $1.50, $3

LOTS More people see it.

Admin

ad a p.s. if you ensue the description is very close to the scan, the Google "spider" sees that, and connects the 2 when folks are searching for images.

i.e. this is OPTIMUM way to present an image and related text, so that YOUR post gets matched by google with the revelant photo.

Remember google "spiders" cannot mind read. :) Posting a photo of the Australia 1932 Green Sydney Harbour Bridge stamp is evident visually to us, but unless the words -

Australia 1932 Green Sydney Harbour Bridge stamp SG 132,

appear as well, google will not index that.

Thank you Admin.
So, to have more views of this topic let me take your advice.

This next one is from my favorite narrow-gauge railway.
Wales in Great Britain is rich full with those (fairytale) little railways.
Let me just add a link of Talyllyn railway home page:
http://www.talyllyn.co.uk/home

"Leaders Of The World" Railway stamp issues
Grenadines of St.Vincent

And if in future posts, you add the photo first and THEN this -

"Leaders Of The World" Railway stamp issues
Grenadines of St.Vincent
1984
2nd set of 8 pairs
values: 1c, 5c, 20c, 35c, 60c, $1, $1.50, $3

Then googlebot "sees" that the photo and the words -

"Leaders Of The World" Railway stamp issues

Are connected to that photo, and adds them to photo image search.

Try it for your next post, and see in a few days on a google image search. :D

i.e. list up like this for all future stamps -

I am pleased that you have added some information about the location of the train. Before you did that I was examining each stamp to see if I could identify the background. I suspect the location will often not be clear but it adds to the value of the thread.

Keep up the good work.

Huhhhhh ....
Thank you people, thank you. I am glad you like those stamps.

Kevin Hedly
- I do not always have information about particular locomotive.
Talyllyn Railway is one of my favorite and that is why I add more info.
Also will do in a future posts if I will have some to add.

First was just a simple plan.
To add and share with you quality images of stamps from my collection.
And with yours advices more people are going to see them I hope.

Enjoy.

Does any of the "blurb" you have on the series say who did the paintings (if that is what they are) of the locomotives.

On the $3 the artist seems to have lost his perspective on the rear wheel of the front bogie, which appears circular rather than slightly egg shaped as the front one.

Hello 60022Mallard,

I am not sure, but I think those are paintings. I can't find artist signature on stamp and neither in SG catalogue.
Maybe some other members of Stampboards may have that information and would be kind to share it with us.

About that wheel ...
you must have much more keen eye than I do.

My goodness, in real life (actual size of the stamp), the wheel must be all of 2mm across. Who would notice?

I feel pretty sure that I will turn up somewhere in the series.

Just what many non stamp collectors say when shown your "variety" stamps?

There is no variety when each print is the same.

And when you look close enough, nothing printed is perfect each time.

I'm researching though, who the artist for all of them might have been... :?:

This thread goes to show that a stamp does not have to be expensive to be good design and well worth collecting. Great thread. It reminds me of the time I used to work and live close to "Puffing Billy" in Belgrave. Somehow the appeal of those dirty old steam trains (I know, Puffing Billy played hell some days with the washing) stays with us.

When I was a kid in England, there was a shunting yard near us with a long footbridge across it. The bottom was made of mesh so you could see through it. You could also stand on it as the engines passed underneath and be lost in the cloud of steam and smoke. Great fun! Except for my mother who had to try to get it all out of my school uniform.

Welcome, I am glad to hear/ read that you like this thread.

Sounds like fun to get 'steamed' by locomotive.
It have to be a lifetime experience. I would like to try that once.
Thank you for share with us a story from your younger days.

Kevin,

Probably simply that "cab over" gives better visibility for the driver than "cab behind"

The down-side to that is that the fireman would be exposed when stoking the boiler.
