G'day QldCds.
Live in the blue mountanis NSW, and I'm a bit of a night owl
:D

That stamp is in a large old album I was given. Havent really gone through it yet. But it's an old Golden Globe loose leaf Album. Sheets are tied with string. All stamps from around the world starting from about 1890.

I know bugger all about foreign stamps but this one caught my eye.

Clear cancels, at the top: one example for each letter of the alphabet....at the bottom: some for just eye appeal.

PS the 'Smitham's' pmk is probably what Cowan & Dell call an Archival or Reference imprint, applied much later with the real stamper (?). I think their terms are euphemisms for 'fake'......

 Hi dm57: no I don't collect the numerals, I have enough trouble keeping on top of the CDS. If you do, I have one you're welcome to No 373, which I posted on the thread 'For all the stamps that are NOT regular postage stamps related' some time ago. Although Glen remarked that this number is also used in Vic.

 Hi again dm57..for 6 years I drove from Melb to the Gold Coast Qld on Christmas holidays so mother-in-law could see her grand-children..'Goondi' was a welcome stop on the way there, and back...altho' on the last trip in 2003 an idiot galah (that's an Aussie flying-type bird: no beach bikini!) destroyed my radio aerial...no music for 700 km...)
Crosscresscent...more on the way...I know where you live heh heh heh.

Where is the Zillmere cancel to make the alphabet a bit more complete? I do have a spare if you need one.

Just as a little aside to Glen's note above: every morning from about 6 am I chuck out seed to feed up to 30 galahs...Judith calls them the 'pink ladies'.

They make up a moving carpet of grey and pink and chortle as they eat. Then I get to watch the sunrise from an easy chair, and chuck stones at Corellas...I call them 'flying cockroaches'.

All a bit "ho-hum" out here on the frontier.

Regards

Ted J

PS I didn't mention the zillion Zebra finches that arrive for the leftovers. THEY look like a mouse plague.

I think I might start a 'birds-on-stamps' collection......starting with some of yours, Andrew!

Ted,

I am just closing my eyes for a moment
and trying to picture what you take as everyday routine out there.
Looking at birds, throwing stones at cockroaches
(I told one joke about cockroaches
on another thread and don't know how many people enjoyed that),
zebra finches by the zillions - WOW!

Glad to see someone has a Zillmere cancellation
that you can use to make your collection complete
as far as the alphabets go
- I don't know whether we have towns named after every alphabet in Malaysia
- X and Z would probably not exist.
Perhaps I should turn back to geography and try
and research the names of all the towns in Malaysia
as an aside - one more hobby to add.

Cheers
Andrew

:D Hi again Andrew! Did you notice my subliminal fixation on the 'Z'? Unfortunately, dwhopper's Zilmere pmk is ouside of my collecting timeframe (KGV period) If I go beyond 1939 or so, I'd need 3 reincarnations to get close to one from each Qld PO!

AND I might come back as a cockroach as a retribution for my a.m. activities!

Judith and I (teachers) did look at jobs in your country, and trained in TESOL...but....too old to cope...bugger.

Regards
Ted J

Ted,

Well, if you do chance this way,
you know who to call.
You don't sound too old
if you can throw stones at cockroaches.
Give our regards to Judith.

Merry Christmas

One QldCds will like .. look at the sensationally bold 1920 strike of WONDAI Qld!

2d Grey roos are $90 minimum on any cover, and in combo with 2 x ½d KGV heads is a most unusual mix, paying correct 3d rate to Europe.

Ted, I am mailing today that Kooka MS to you .. let me know if you want me to add this one too - will not add a bean to mail cost. :)

That sure is a really nice bold WONDAI cancellation.
If it was that bold on the stamps, QldCds would be even more pleased.

Hi Andrew! Glen's cover and the great Rodney Perry article in the SN mag you just received, prompted me to post these covers.

I picked them up for the postmarks, but also enjoy the destinations and lovely handwriting.

The Danmark cover has very poor strikes, but of a rare PO. I like the Mt Isa stamp combination for its "Australianness"....

QldCds .. do you have a Longreach on ocver?

This one likely overweight for the 1d 1st step, and should have had 2d Postage due collected but apparently not?

My guess there are 2 different due markings .. the "T" being separate to the

2d

Anyone know what the I.S.O. stands for?

I S stands for Inland Section

F B stands for Foreign Branch

The O was a code, they had a few, I have seen M and I in IS ones and a G on F.B. ones

Hi Andrew

I see you collect FMS for their postmarks too

One of my philatelic aims is to create a collection of the FMS issue with a postmark from each of the post offices open during the period- there were circa 220 different post offices open in the 4 states...I'm at number 60- still a long long way to go

Hi Slayer,

Nice to know someone else collecting postmarks of the FMS.
Must admit my knowledge of the number of postmarks is limited.
Didn't know there are around 220.
I just picked these up for the towns I am familiar with and for clarity of the cancellation.
These were offered at half Steven Tan's 26th catalogue values.
The whole bunch put be back less than RM50
- less than 7 pounds sterling or about AUS$17.

Cheers
Andrew

Manny nice postmarks here. And the postmark is important. Two days ago I sold this one on the QXL.no online auction in Norway.

Image

Husv¦r is a small place on the cost in the midle of Norway. But to get the "rigth" price for it there have to be at last two idio... ahm philatelists who want it.

It is the Nk (norwegian catalog) 246IIa from 1941-45 with an number printed 354.340.000! Catalog value is 1,-nok, but the postmark gave me a price of 100,- nok.

I also tried to sell this from another small place, but that did not sell. I started the auctions at 1,- nok.

Cheers
Andrew

Slayer,

Thanks for that information.
I have just copied it into a word document for reference.
The next time I meet up with this guy who sold me those stamps,
I'll look out for these towns.

Thanks again and happy collecting.

This nice cover was sent to me by Browny, a member of this very stampchatboard.

Pity we can't get such perfect cancels in the big city :?
