Any thoughts to support for software such as Tapatalk or Forum Runner for use on smartphones and tablets.

I can confidently advise that no thought whatsoever has all has been given to this idea.

Well here's an idea.

You paypal me $25,000 so we can engage a techie geek, who can set it all up for the 2 people from 8,500 members who will use it, and your dream will come true.

80% of our members are retired age group, and really struggle with adding a photo here.

99.9% of members have zero clue what Tapatalk is, much less need to use it.

It may have escaped your notice, but we do not charge any member fee, or beg for a "supporter" fee from regular users, as many sites do.

We do not charge a fee for selling or selling, for those who wish to.

We do not have leaping ads and pop-ups, and annoying junk that near all other sizeable Bulletin Board on earth does.

I await that paypal transfer with interest. 8)

Add $10,000 and we can can have live streaming Blu-Ray in 4G high definition digital.

Thanks for your support.

Glen

Why would I need an app when I can just use my tablet and log on as normal over the net?

Count me as one of those 99.9%.

I have a smartphone, but don't see the obsession with them. Why do people need to be 'plugged in' and able to access the internet every minute wherever they are? Riding the train/bus to work? Read a book, that's what I do.

Well, I happen to be a techy geek. If you think it would add value, I'll put my money where my mouth is and happily figure out how to do it.

If you don't think it would add value, that's fine, and we can leave it alone.

I do appreciate the fact that the forum is free, It boggles my mind you don't have ads anywhere.

I would never request a feature be added to a service I get for free without first turning around and making sure that I could help in it's implementation.

But I completely understand your position on this. Never hurts to ask, though.

I have no idea what Tapatalk is, I've never heard of it.

But I often browse Stampboards on my iPhone. Works fine for me :) No need to download anything additional. :)

apastuszak - Well many thanks for the offer. :)

We do have some younger tech minded folks who would certainly use it.

I did not think we needed any Facebook presence either, but Margo and a couple of others volunteered to set it all up, and I just noticed with some pride we have about 440 "likes" - so folks add your name there NOW please - so we get to the magic 500 -

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Stampboards/137118056311808

When we needed a catchy, professional Logo here, I certainly did not have a clue on such things.

Our Ohio USA member ginnyflo is a graphics whizz and came up with a host of sizes and concepts that she adjusted as needed, that we are very proud of -

So yes please - anything you or others can help set up, if you have tech skill in that area, all assist our growth. :)

Wolfgang,

Tapatalk is a mobile app that allows you to connect to a forum, with the ability to upload images, private messaging, etc.

Apparently tapatalk is available for iPads for $4.99. Still haven't figured out what it'll do for me. Have some reading ahead of me

Tapatalk optimizes the site for best viewing on a mobile device with a small screen. It's basically a plugin you install into phpBB. The cost is free for the forum owner.

They make their money from 2 revenue streams:

1. They sell the client to phone/tablet owners
2. The can create a custom version of their app for a fee to connect to your forum, so that you have an app branded with your name on it.

They have a competitor called Forum Runner, which is just as good.

There is a free version of Tapatalk available that will let you read forums without being able to post. That'll give you a feel for the interface at least.

Ken Lemke,

Before you buy the app, it must be activated first on SB.

I use tapatalk on some forums and would like to see it here as it's a lot better than accessing it via an internet browser. Did this idea die ?

For those not familiar with it : http://www.tapatalk.com/

As the guy who handles the back end servers and is definitely a propeller head, I like the idea of tapatalk. I use a branded version to access xda-forums (phone and tablet hacking/development board) and it allows a much simpler interface. I do not know what the expense is to have a branded app, but think it is an interesting proposition.

You don't need a branded app. Just install the plugin and use the Taptalk client (or Forum Runner)
