I was in the middle of reading and posting here when I remembered that, for convenience, I wanted to change my contact email address. It means that emails from other members come through to a more convenient place.

So I went to my Control Panel and did the business.

And was immediately blocked pending reactivation by admin. There was no warning until AFTER I'd changed it, that this would happen, although there was then a clear warning - too late.

I also got an email confirming the fact, which also suggested that I should contact the administrator.

But once you are deactivated you can't contact administrators through the board because, you are not an active member!

This isn't Stampboards problem, or Glen's doing AFAIK, but something in the software.

Just a warning to anybody else who might consider making any similar changes mid-stream.

(What did I do while I was waiting? I dug out another box of postal history and the results will be here later!)

Fortunately 99.9% of members do not mess around changing email addresses, or else the unpaid moderator burden would be even greater.

Oddly, most folks seem to work out that an email to admin[at]stampboards.com will work, (as the email you got advises) as of course all reply to post advices and advice to member emails etc come from that obvious address.

However we do apologise if the software is not to your liking at all times.

Glen, you do seem to take offence at the most straight of intentions, in this case I intended this to be a helpful comment, in which I made it clear that (as I thought) it was outside your control.

The system email reads:
Your account on "Postage Stamp Chat Board and Stamp Bulletin Board Forum"
has been deactivated, most likely due to changes made to your profile. The
administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in.
You will receive another notification when this has occurred.

which does, of course, imply that the moderators would have done this without my email to you. The auto-email does not, in fact, provide a contact email address in the body. Sorry to have caused you any trouble - I was quite happy to wait from 8pm until the following morning or whenever it was fixed.

And from what address was the auto email sent .. you know the bit on the left hand side that says SENDER. Durrrhhhh.

How about this novel trick -- hit REPLY (top centre of your screen) and see what email comes up.

Geez some of you folks must have spare time weighing VERY heavily on your hands.

I'll HALVE your annual fee for the massive inconvenience OK? And please email the software designers at phpBB -- they'll be appalled to hear of your experience I feel sure.

I guess getting absolutely whupped by OZ in the Test cricket right now. is a good reason to have a whine about something.

I wasn't whining. It was meant to be a helpful hint to anybody else who realises mid-stream that a different address would be more convenient not to change it in mid-stream. (I ought to be better organised!)

You always take things to heart so. Lighten up! You could just ignore 'helpful hints' rather than defending what wasn't an attack in the first place.

Or I could re-read before I post to see if it might be construed as an attack; or I could just stop writing helpful hints.

Congrats to Mark Webber on winning the German GP! :D
