Going back to page 11 of this important thread.

In the post by Abed H Najjar of "Wed Sep 23, 2009 21:25:14 pm," where he posts verbatim The Radley Report, there are now some Photobucket deletions, which since references to these are made by the paragraph numbers in later posts, naturally make the thread extremely difficult to follow.

Additionally in the post by Abed H Najjar of "Sat Sep 26, 2009 05:19:01 am" (page 12) one photo has been deleted.

Similarly in the post by GlenStephens of "Wed Sep 30, 2009 21:04:37 pm" (page 16) one photo has been deleted.

The question to ask, of course, is can these photos/illustrations of pages from the report be restored?

Less importantly some avatars of some members have been lost, such as Peter, figmente, Kevin Morgan, Pmk Lady, nolimitsstamps and GizzyGuy.

It seems a great shame to spoil this important thread.

Thanking you in advance.

Kindest regards

Richard Debney

It appears that both Abed and Glen have exceeded their (free) Photobucket download limits for this. Perhaps the images need to be hosted somewhere else that doesn't have that problem and the new URLs edited in by a mod?

Regretably, if Abed has deleted or moved his Photobucket scans of the report, there is no way for Stampboards to recover them. We would need somebody who has actually copied these scans into their own accout to recover them.

If this was not from Glen's Photobucket account, but copied from an external source, and it has been deleted from that source, again, it cannot be recovered.

This is going to be a much more frequently occurring problem in the future as more senior members of the board join that great stampclub in the sky.

Is there any way around this problem?

It appears that his account has merely exceeded the bandwidth allowed per month. See this Photobucket FAQ:

http://support.photobucket.com/app/answ ... h%20limits

From which certain considerations seem to follow:

(1) The images should return to viewability sometime within the next month when the cycle date is reached and the usage limit resets.

(2) Since those images are critical to understanding one of the longest and most heated threads on the board, it might be a good idea to copy them to the board webspace directly and change the links with modly powers.

(3) The general board advice to use Photobucket for images should come with a warning that if you use it to post a lot of links to images, here or elsewhere, you may end up hitting this restriction. (I'd previously overlooked it.)

I imagine that if a catalogue price is actually quoted in the next edition, it will be substantially increased given that SG have one on offer at £550,000!

All are Margo's account images if anyone bothered to check the source code - see below - easily rectified.

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8808&start=500

Additionally in the post by Abed H Najjar of "Sat Sep 26, 2009 05:19:01 am" (page 12) one photo has been deleted.

I agree Abed has deleted this image for some unknown reason. Folks, NEVER delete a photobucket image you post here please, or this mess occurs. We can add that back if Abed redoes that image.

Nothing of mine is missing from page 16 that I can see. I did not in fact, make ANY posts on page 16.

Re the avatars, if anyone bothered to check the hosting source of these, they will all resolve to Margo's account, where photobucket in their stupidity has not renewed her PRO account, as she changed email addresses, and the dopes in there have not charged her yet, as she did not confirm the auto renew advice. (That went to a dead mailbox.)

When they do in the next hours, these pix all will be restored. They are all in her account - several 1000s of them, but the PRO account costs $20 a year to host that many. A bargain. It is the weekend in the USA I believe.

So other than Abed deleting one image, I do not think there is any issue?

My apologies, the post is from page 15, towards the top, date and time are correct. I don't know how I made that mistake since I was trying to be especially careful.

Richard, every page of this thread has a unique header. Every single post does of course.

Page 15 as all can see is

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8808&start=700

The post that bothers you so greatly on page 15 with a dead link is 8 posts down that page, so logically is -

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8808&start=708

Page 16 will end in =750 and so on. Page 17 ends in =800 etc. A pretty simple system really, and all logical thinkers equipped with grade school Math can follow it readily. :)

Can you or others post specific links please - I've wasted 30 minutes of my day already on this, playing Sherlock Holmes, due to vague and wrong dead ends.

The offending pix, as is screamingly evident had you bothered to actually click the thread linked right under it, from years back, refers to removing Gold colour from Australia 1965 Xmas stamps with a Q tip dipped in Metho, and has no bearing whatever to the substance of this thread.

Now let us move from that pointless red herring, to the GB Plate 77 thanks folks.

Glen

I was completely unaware of the post numbering system or even that there were 50 to a page. Previously I have always identified posts by date and time. Thank for the useful info.

I did actually click on the link and found out about the Xmas stamp but only after my immediate prior post.

I look forward to the return of The Radley Report posts.

All members can edit any post within an hour of making it so you were free to edit your message.

Re the Radley images, Margo took an hour of her time to break a huge PDF into bite size scans, so that it would all be readable.

AFAIK that PDF is posted elsewhere for anyone who wants to read it again, but in any case the Margo images will re-appear soon it is hoped when Photobucket's Finest clock back on again to take her money.

I appreciate Margo's efforts.

Even with me, computer skills are improving - immediate prior post - first time I managed to post a link.

Well done. . next step is you get you to to highlight the link and click the "URL" button, then it does not truncate as yours has done. :)

Sorry back out to sea, I don't understand what "truncate" means in this case. I know it is certainly not your function to teach me computer skills. I know what "URL" stands for but there is not a button labeled that on my Apple MacBookPro.

Sorry, kindest regards, Richard

Richard, at the top of the reply screen you will see a series of buttons, starting with B (for Bold), then i (for italics). At the end of that row you will see the [url]URL[/url] (this is what will appear in your edit screen, the html tags for making the text a URL, in this case).

to use these buttons, you simply highlight the text you want to be Bolded, or in italics or, in this case, shown in full as a URL. Then press the appropriate button (with your mouse) and see the magic occur.

http://www.stampboards.com/posting.php?mode=edit&f=13&p=2566164 - with URL tags, as above.

posting.php?mode=edit&f=13&p=2566164 - without URL tags

Many thanks. I have no problems with either bold or italics and will study the rest in due course.

Or is the reason why some links open in a new tab/window and others just replace the existing Stampboards window?

It 'matters' as when someone (like Norm above always does!) posts a full link from an existing thread without the URL tags - it works, but when someone copies such a link it does not work.

i.e.

posting.php?mode=edit&f=13&p=2566164

We have asked members a dozen times in emails to ALWAYS highlight links, and then click the URL button but clearly not everyone reads emails from Admin.

Many thanks.

Am I to assume that a truncated link is one that begins with the term "view topic..." and that a regular link is one that begins with "http://www.stampboards.com..."

I do appreciate the importance of the link appearing in blue but both seem to direct the reader towards the topic.

Kindest regards, Richard

After re-reading I believe it is the copying of the highlighted "view topic..." link by others which causes the problems.

I will try to include the "http://www.stampboards.com..." in any links I might include in the future.

Ian, you once posted instructions for Apple users, my case a MacBookPro to capture photos such as eBay images, to keep for eternity, rather than lose them after a few months.

I cannot find these instructions to save my life.

Could I ask you to repost them or contact me through the e-mail system.

Kindest regards, Richard
