Without going in to too much detail the following is a potted history.
In late 1990 I created Premier Postmark Auctions. and it held its 1st auction in February 1991. To the best of my knowledge Premier Postmark Auctions was the first Australian business devoted to the sale of Postmarks.
In 1997 I created Premier Philatelic Auctions Pty Ltd in 1998 I expanded the the business to include stamps and other philateic material.
Since the beginning, Gary Watson had worked part-time for me to assist with the lotting and in 1998 he accepted my offer to take a 50% shareholding in Premier Philatelc Auctions. I continued to hold the postion of Managing Director, while Gary was in charge of lotting and catalogue production.
In early 1999 we were given the opportunity to purchase Macray Watson Auctions. I felt that this was too good an opportunity to pass up and in mid-1999 Macray Watson Auctions was purchased and that took us from just doing postal auctions to doing both postal & public auctions. The decision to purchase MWA and commence public auctions was critical to our later success.
While Premier Philately Pty Ltd, as it was now known, was extremely succussful the relationship between Gary and my self deteriorated and in May 2002 Gary agreed to buy my 50% share of Premier Philately.
After I left I created Premier Postal Auctions Pty Ltd and I continued to use the Premier logo, Gary had agreed to this. In 2003 Gary changed the name of Premier Philately to Prestige Philately. (Hence the existance of the 2 similar but not identical logos.)
In May 2003 Gary defaulted on part of the purchase agreement and this led to a bitter and protracted legal dispute. This was finally settled to my satisfaction in early 2006.
In August 2004 we moved away from printed auction catalogues to running our auctions solely from our website
http://www.premierpostal.com.
We have put an enormous amount of effort into our website to ensure that it is one of the best and easiest to use, and we continue to actively improve it. We also use our website to make some of our reference databases available to anyone.
With 6-7 auctions per year ranging from 4,000 to nearly 7,000 lots each, Premier Postal Auctions is Australia's largest and most prominent Postal Auction house.
