Our stampboard member "Mark", a commercial artist, has painted a honeybee & transferred the image so that it was accepted by New Zealand Post as a personalised stamp.



Mark is now considering producing cinderellas from the painting.



The original idea was to issue a 60c CAL (customised advertising label), however because the minimum number you can have produced by NZ Post is 1,000 (thus NZ$6,000) he was unsure if
the NZ bee association would purchase the bulk of them.

Mark's earlier CAL was issued to promote his gallery exhibition of paintings in Auckland in March 2011. It must have contributed to his promotion, as all the paintings sold.

My maths was incorrect in the above post.
A 1,000 order for 60c face value CALs would be NZ$600 +
ordering charges (perhaps NZ$220).

My stated figure of NZ$6,000 would mean NZ$6 for each 60c stamp which would be crazy.

Back to school for me.

This sheet with four stamps/labels shows the tug Lyttelton at Lyttelton harbor, the tug at sea, the tug in Akaroa Harbor, and the tug passing Akaroa lighthouse. This was issued by the Tug Lyttelton Preservation Society in 1990, and all proceeds from the sale of these stamps/labels went towards helping to maintain tug Lyttelton.

I am at work at the moment (so no access to my library) however, IIRC this cinderella was issued in a block of four and is listed in Eustis at about $25 AUD. This was a Nelson Eustis special as he organised the re-enactment flight and all the souvenirs around it.

However, the envelope and cinderella refer to the 50th anniversary of the Basil Watson flight of 1917 whereas the postmark refers the 50th anniversary of the 1919 Harry Butler flight between Adelaide and Minalton in the Red Devil!

I will post a copy of the block of four over the weekend.

Yes I was aware of the difference in year but could find nothing googling the cinderella

NZ Post now charge you an extra 12 cents above face value for cals, so to buy 1,000 at 60c is $720.

It can take a while to use them all up, esp. if you ration them so each letter-recipient only gets one of each!

But earlier, the greedy NZ Post also slammed us with a $200 "set-up fee" per stamp, so my 2009 Blockhouse Bay Radio kitten set was quite an expensive operation. Not surprising that all cal clients were happy to sell off their "free imperf proof sheets" to recoup these losses (or perf and sell singles and pairs as I did.)

Anybody who would like a free one of this minisheet (I being the artist who created it, & did the "official 41st anniversary re-enactment bikeride" at Timpex 2009, accompanied by the city Mayor and a NZ Post postie!), I am happy to supply you.

"Keep Cool with Coolidge in Wisconsin This Summer". A stamp issued by the Outdoor Club of Wisconsin, to promote tourism in northern Wisconsin. In 1928 President Calvin Coolidge spent the summer fishing on the Brule River, with a high school in Superior serving as the vacation White House.

Though eligible to seek re-election in 1928, Coolidge announced in 1927 that he did not choose to run for election.

I like the postal strike cinderellas or postal strike issues since I did a exhibit and covered postal strikes from 1909-2012 most never known to have occurred, they may be cinderellas but they are cool.

O.k., time to move this one up again!

but there was no photo to see if it was in better or worse condition than the one I have.

One of my favorite things to find are tied labels:
Here is one I found in a random box lot. I first thought it was a stamp, but with a closer look saw it had no denomination, and the label reads Raittiuden Ystavat = "Friends of Temperance", according to Bablefish.

Although the temperance movement in Finland stems back to the 1830's, it was not until the founding of the Friends of Temperance in 1884 that the modern crusade against alcoholism really began.The growth of the organization was rapid; membership increased from 5,700 in 1888 to 10,277 in 1900. Five years later there were over 34,000 members on the roll of the Friends.

That's about all I know right now. I've got some more digging to do.

I am not sure these local posts are new to me, I try to find local posts that went through the mail or were issued for a reason, I hope someone here on stampboards can help me out, as I said this is new to me. I have a one frame right now because money is tight, but this can go to a six frame exhibit, but there is no infomation on some of the local posts.

There used to be (maybe still is?) a club in USA: the Local Posts Collectors' Society.

Try to trace it and join. Secretary back in the days I was in touch was Wayne D. Martel, in Toledo, OH.

I admit I am addicted to Cinderellas I think they make any collection more interesting they fit into any subject, I cant resist.
I am busy gathering any propaganda stamps of the wars.
I have belonged to the Cinderella Society for years. Great for information any lots of fun.

And cinderellas are nearly always issued in very limited numbers, so just on scarcity" level, they will trump SG-listed stuff any day!

There are others with different local posts, I believe that with the backstory this exhibit will win big, I am going to go slow so as not to rush and mess it up.

These are very scarce in Malta. I got the one above from eBay for a little over £10. Here are a couple of others from eBay (these are the only ones I saw for sale):

These labels are now seldom seen. Up to a few years ago they appeared regularly in auctions (they fetched about £4-£5 each), but very few are seen now. I got the one on cover above from an online dealer in the UK (not on eBay) for £7.50. The only one I ever saw on eBay was on a FDC of the 1d from the 1949 Silver Wedding issue, which sold for US$7.26.

Among my favorite cinderellas are the stamps of Tarajara.


TARAJARA STAMPS: Cats, Painting, Fidel Castro, Vladimir Lenin, John Okello, Mao Zedong, Mushroom, Flower.

Tarajara is an "imaginary country" dreamed up by the New Zealand Army so they could have "war-games" against it. It is intended to be (quite obviously) New Caledonia, but they can't say that, as France is in theory a "friend" (despite blowing up a Greenpeace ship in Auckland harbour.)

So when this fake land was announced in the media, I decided to print stamps for it.


TARAJARA STAMPS: President Nguema of Equatorial Guinea, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, Chairman Pot of Kampuchea, Winston Churchill of GB. (Something for everyone there!)

I had great fun doing these stamps, and distributing them to friends, and using on mail (local carriage only!) Since Tarajara is at war with both NZ & Australia, it was a good vehicle to show Kiwi atrocities also, and they hit home (the sadist member of parliament shown on the 70 franc left parliament as a result, so one less sadist making laws has GOT to be a good thing, surely!)


KIWI ATROCITIES: David Benson-Pope (Member of Parliament) tortured schoolboys with tennis-balls and rope when he taught school. Helen Clark dropped poison spray over residential areas from aircraft. Tupua Tamasese of Samoa was shot in the back by NZ police while on a peaceful unarmed protest march. The ship "Talune" with which the Kiwis introduced influenza to Samoa in 1918.

In some lands, they have coups and shoot folks. In NZ, we just make funny stamps, and embarrass the sadists out of their high perch. In the case of the Helen Clark stamp, she was embarrassed enough to call off the poison spray that was being dropped on residential areas of Auckland and Hamilton! Not many stamps that could claim that sort of success!

And surely a sticker opposing corruption in the dodgy NZ Post has got to be a good idea?


My car proudly urges end to corruption with this sticker on its back window. Several NZ dealers sell these to their clients. Like one for your car?

I just posted the judges sheet from my postal strike exhibit that was at COLOPEX 2012 June 8-10, 2012 and fixed the things the judges said, although once my article on postal strikes and doing a exhibit is published by the American Philatelic Society in either July or August. Once it is published If anyone wants a copy e-mail me and I will mail a hard copy to you.

I will be starting my own local post and when I get the stamp printed I will discuss and reveal all the details. I will be using the stamp to post on my outgoing mail, I may or may not sell them and a FDC if there would be a interest. I am also getting a dated stamper that will look like a official USPS cancel.

I have not desided on the final design of the stamp, but stay tuned.

These labels were issued sometime between the founding of the MMDNA in 1945 and 1948.
On Revenue Reverend, there is:

* L42 is the 5/- green

These are frequent in Malta, but there is no guarantee that you will find them. Like most Malta labels, they fetch £4-£5 each. Blocks of 4 of both values are also sometimes seen. I've never seen either stamp on eBay.

I have never seen either value used. All the ones available seem to be in MUH or MH condition.

The 5/- exists as a colour trial in blue and overprinted WATERLOW & SONS LTD. / SPECIMEN. This is very rare and I never saw it on sale. The only time I physically saw one was in the Maltex exhibition of 2009.

These are (in my opinion) Malta's best Cinderellas in terms of the design. Note that the MMDNA exists to this day:

These are common labels in Malta and fetch £4-£5 as well. I have no clue as to when they were issued and by whom, and I would appreciate any information about this label.

They look as if they were issued between the late 1940s and early 1960s, before Malta became independent in 1964.

Revenue Reverend (see link in previous post) also lists five additional Malta labels - one issued by the Singer Sewing Machine Company and four by the Anglo-Maltese League. I have never seen any of those available in Malta or on the internet.

here is the first issue of my local post I started called "Panama City Private Local Post" the stamp will be issued 27 August 2012 the first run will be no gum, the second batch will be dry gum.


One stamp will be issued every year as that is all I can afford to do.

I searched a bit about British Empire patriotic labels on Google but all that came up were images of the Maltese gratitude seal ( ) and of Indian labels from this thread: viewtopic.php?t=17041

I'm also aware of gratitude labels similar to the Malta one but from other colonies (I recall one from Barbados (or Bermuda ) which I saw on eBay quite some time ago). Does anyone have any?
