Bought this huge and ancient yellowed album page today in an estate. Must be 100 years old at least I'd say. NOTHING removed - which is nice!

Most are German area, and others appear to be Norway/Sweden(?) area, and lower right is Latin origin I'd guess.

Does anyone know if these are all pretty ordinary or is there anything more interesting among them?

I normally just sell this stuff as it comes, but have no idea on a fair value to place on these.

Someone told me the 2 x top left Pigeon labels were from Swiss hotels perched on the top of mountains etc.

Thanks in advance for any input or ID on these. :)

OK, doing some basic research myself I can see the left hand BERGEN Bypost label (with full stop after words) appears to be 1865 issue #1 and is Cat 150 units - of some currency!

The key with these old collections is often condition - in particular, how the stamps are mounted in the album. Obviously if they're glued down, or the mint ones are "licked and stuck", that would severely reduce it...

Not really my area of Germany, so difficult to help with value - it's the sort of thing I'd be tempted with if it were cheap enough, but I wouldn't like to guess at a figure and mislead you...

Gav, each is hinged to the page ..... not glued down thankfully.

They intrigue me .. a few close ups attached. :D

I see many of them for sale in this dealer's list, often at pretty decent prices.

Hello from Germany,

the stamps with inscription "Kurort Rigi Scheideck Hauser & Stierlin" are vignettes of Hotels in Switzerland, mentioned in Michel catalogue for Switzerland under "Lokalausgaben"; they were not regular stamps. (the two with pigeons on it).

The same is with the third one in the upper row "Schreibers Rigi-Kulm Hotels", also a vignette not a valid stamp ( all about 1870, by the way ).

But real local issues were the forth and fifth stamp in the first upper row:

the forth: Maderaneralp, 1872, in mint unused, about 80,- Euros in my 1996 catalogue,

the fifth: Belapl, 1876, about 75,- or 125,- Euros in mint unused

the forth and fifth one were real local used stamps.

Kind regards

Gerhard

Great info thanks Gerhard.

The blue one looks in quite good shape. :D

So all of these look to be around 1870s it seems.

My hunch was that any value in there was in the Scandinavia region, not German. :)

I think I'll list the lot here for about $US75-100, and someone will like them, I am sure.

The most stamps are described in the old Billig´s Specialized Catalogues Volume 6.
All german locals are in the Michel Privatpost-Spezial 2005/2006 or Meier zu Eissen catalouges described.

The Privatepost stamps from Heidelberg: 1 Pfg. blue MiNr.A.33 5€, 2 Pf. red Mi. A.14 4€, 5 Pf. green Mi A. 16 5€, 3 Pf. lilac Mi A. 15 4€, 10Pf. orange Mi A.17 6€

Wiesbaden: 2Pf lilac Mi 29a A or B, perf. 11 7,5€ and perf 12 25€ - 3 Pf. rose Mi: 30 5€ - 3Pf brown Mi: 19a 7,5€

The others are Privatpost stamps from Dredsen and Berlin. The Berlin Localpost called Berliner Packetfahrt growed up, started delivery everything else and growed more and today it´s called Schenker, one of the bigges german logistik companies.

Kurort Rigi-Scheideck cinderellas are sold at ebay around 10 € for that pair. Currently somebody is selling a pair for 39 CHF - (too much ;-))

I do not have a catalog about Norway locals yet but may you get a feeling about the prices if you check out

Hi
The big stamp of Rosario, is an old revenue stamp from the city of Rosario, in Argentina (Sata Fe province). I don't know the year, but I guess it's from the end of XIX or 1900s. And I don't know its value, since got it from a friend.

Regards
Ernesto

Hello

Some fun BOB there, anything with perforation goes.

The 'stamps' with BYPOST on are Danish and Norweian issues. For the Danish ones in general the name of the city precedes the word 'bypost'. The others are Norwegian.

Bypost means 'city mail', at that time there were private people that had concessions to expedite mail inside the limits of the city named (intra post) but they could not be used for other destinations (inter post). I have not looked into the pricing, but my personal opinion is that they are not really heavy price wise, 1-2 AU$ each tops. Stick them om ebay and try your luck, you might get lucky.

These came out of a world cinderella/revenue lot. Most are without gum. Any value to them?

Thanks.

I've just sold a few of these this evening, they didn't sell for a huge amount.

However I think what you have is better - probably worth a go on eBay, must be worth a couple of Dollars each to the right collector.

They look too good to be true. I wonder if they have been recently officially reprinted?

I remember reading something like that in one of Jay Smith's e-newsletters, though I think that was about Christmas Seals.

Certainly there are many collectors of these, and - if original - I wouldn't expect them to be common in mint blocks. Some are Swedish, some are Danish. Can't tell with the silver and red, but it appears to be the same design as the blue and brown from Aalborg.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "recently". The paper of these is fairly well aged (the camera flash makes the paper and ink colors appear brighter than they really are).

Also they were in this old glassine below, somewhat browned and fairly "crispy" if you know what I mean. I would put the glassine at least 30 years old.

No gum = no value, I'm afraid.

Not quite "no value" I can bet.

They'd get a reasonable price 'as is' with 'no gum' I imagine.

I find with anything fiscal/revenue/cinderella related, that gum is generally not a big deal with buyers.

I just listed these for $450 with no gum and they'll sell easily. With nice gum, maybe I'd get 10% more. Indeed with the usual cruddy gum and hinges, probably LESS than $450.

I would assume that large blocks and full sheets of the
Coolgardie stamps are not as readily available as they are
for most Scandinavian locals.
