India appears to have issued quite a few war fund stamps

I'm ony guessing that this is Indian because of the lion. Could even be WW1 era - anyone know?

This one is definitely WW1.

These are a mix of both wars

Hyderabad issued a few seals during WWII. Here is an example of one of them, on a cover to Palestine:

And this one seems to be a generic patriotic label from WWI, used on the back of a cover from Jind State:

Those are nice seals on cover.

This one is pre-war - 1935 I assume.

This is issued from Egypt if I remember correctly.
This is of Perf 13, size 25x23 mm, no face value with orange, red and blue color.
Known to be used in other British Commonwealth countries also though.

This information is from Patriotic & Propaganda of the British Commonwealth Catalogue by Clive Edwards. A very old catalogue which is now outdated (has lots of labels missing) but still covers lots of such labels and a very useful catalogue of this nature.

I have 1st edition of that catalogue. Could not find later editions if it was revised (no idea).

Chikil2000, I'm sorry: I bought the cover for the Jind stamps, not the label, and I don't have any spares.

PATRIOTIC & PROPAGANDA [LABELS] OF THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH

by Clive Edwards

first edition, published by Label Lads, 1990

large format (A4) paperback (softcover), 72 pages

This catalogue is an attempt to list all the patriotic and propaganda labels produced by countries of the British Commonwealth. Most of the labels listed relate to the First and Second World Wars, and many are not listed anywhere else. With many black & white illustrations, and a rarity guide.

Is there any philatelic literature specific to Indian War Fund Labels? Any suggestions?

This is the only one I know. But there is hardly any description in it.
It is like a crude catalogue that's it.

I have never heard of any book giving history behind all the labels issued in British India during WWI and WWII and hence I started my blog to record all the research I do on these:

http://stampomania.blogspot.com/

Do you also collect materials related to WWI or WWII?
I am also from Bangalore, it will be great to meet up.

hey we met just last Sunday, at Leela  I guess at times we get so lost in cyberspace that we have difficulty recognizing people we know from face-to-face

And yes, your interest in War propaganda material does spark mine :)

Great work on your blog, undertaken for this specific area, Keep it coming :!:

And thank you so much for the prompt response and scans of the 1946 Azad Hind book, much appreciated...

I have to disagree - the top item has an ambulance with a body style that is very late 1930s. Certainly not WW1

I agree that's my mistake. I overlooked that fact.
It can't be WWI because during British Raj years, the medical needs of the British Army and their families were met by the QAMNS (Queen Alexandra's Military Nursing Service) for India (known as the QAIMN[I]) until they were amalgamated to the QAIMNS in 1926 by the War Office.

The QAIMNS (Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service) with the RAMC (Royal Army Medical Corps) continued to care for British servicemen and women and their families. While the Indian servicemen were cared for in Indian Military Hospitals which were staffed by Indian doctors, orderlies and members of the Indian Military Nursing Service (IMNS).

Indian Red Cross society was officialy created much later in 1920.
So this is WWII label.

I have come across these Bhavnagar War Fund Postcards offered at very affordable prices at various times, hope you are familiar with these postcards that I'm talking about. Which period are these from - WWI or WWII?

I know they are set of 5 and related to WWI (issued during WWI).

For example:

Image

shows Khudadad Khan which was listed as WWI hero:

Hey thanks, that's exactly what I was referring to, I guess I shall go for these set of 5 War Fund postcards then...

Also, nice to come to know of Sepoy Khudadad thanks to Philately :) Otherwise I seldom knew that many brave Indians fought the World Wars...

Wow, Subedar Khudadad Khan was the first Indian to win the Victoria Cross!

Hey thanks for the encouragement, I picked up the set of Bhavnagar cards.

Am eyeing the Hyderabad 'faithful ally' labels now, I think two of them are easier to get but the third one is a bit difficult?

Well, can't say. Sometimes you will find all 3 available otherwise you see only 1 or 2 of them available. But, I agree that in general I have also observed the 2 varieties are easily available but 3rd one rarely appears..

I bought a set of 5 cards of the Bhavnagar warfund, but one of them is not actually a postcard, but a card with the back blank, printed in color, contrary to the other postcards one of which you've uploaded above, and this color non-postcard, the 5th one, carries the various Bhavnagar state seals - coins and medals - in it. Is it part of this warfund postcard set? Was this also issued at the same time along with the others?

Here's the pic...

I really can't guarantee that part but I assumed that it was part of same set because all of them had same wordings "issued by....." at top of postcard.

The problem is there are no catalogues to refer :(

Here is another India related WWII label for which I don't find any reference:

Image

Does anyone know what's history behind it or when was it issued?
I googled on Secunderabad War Memorial but I don't see any link which points to this WWI or WW2 memorial in Secunderabad?

I think the basic thumb rule was

Half Anna Labels were WW-I
One Anna Labels were WW-II.

Therefore this should be a WW-II label.

Thanks and regards.
