Hello Stampboard...
Just wanted to ask the question,
Are USA Internal Revenue Stamps ever of great value?

It is from the issue of 1862. My 2005 Scott Specialized lists it at US$ 0.25.

marcroxx, that makes it a Civil War era revenue -- a result of the Revenue Act of 1862 which taxed numerous items to finance the war.

Some of the USA revenues are WAY into 4 figures.

Somebody mention U.S. revenues? ;)

There are so many areas within revenue collecting (documentaries, proprietaries, wines, tobacco, match & medicine, revenue stamped paper, etc.). I find it impossible to collect them all, so I limit myself (for the most part) to the Civil War-era material.

And like Glen says, certain stamps can reach well into the 4- and 5-figures.

My website in my sig has several reference charts to the 1st-3rd series (R1-R151) as well as a large photo gallery of cancels (my specialty).

Your stamp is a common one, most likely R44c (2010 SCV $0.50) although going by the cancel date, it's possible that it is R44d, on silk paper. Look at the back of the stamp for minute blue silk threads (there may be only one per stamp). An R44d catalogs $2.75.
