The stamp shown here is from an eBay auction where it was described as a 'Greek prostitution revenue'. I missed the auction, but the seller kindly provided me with the image shown below.

Unfortunately, he couldn't provide any details regarding the stamp's use. The stamp was from a collection he'd purchased, and the description came from a note on the page where the stamp had been mounted.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has knowledge of this stamp, or of Greek prostitution stamps in general if they really do exist. I know nothing more than the auction description.

I'm hoping there are some Greek revenue collectors on the board. I don't have a catalog of Greek fiscals, and this is, in fact, the only Greek stamp in my collection.

Tanks,
Steven

Steve, it looks like a fiscal stamp of one of the many Isurance Funds for Emplyees. This is indicated by the first 3 initials TAY. I don't know what Πstands for. I can't exclude the possibility that it represents a fee paid by prostitutes using some health service. The last Π is suspicious. But this is very unlikely, in my opinion.
I can't see any price. This 6.5 seems to be a law or article of a law.
I will try to learn more.

Thank you, Zenon. The information about the initials TAY is very interesting. Do you think that explanation would require a legalized prostitutes union? I suspect the stamp will turn out to be for something entirely different from prostitution.

Thanks again for your help,
Steven

Oops, I saw your reply with some delay.

The prostitutes had not (and still don't have) the status of a normal profession, so they didn't have a Fund either.
The last letter pi probably stands for "personnel" or "persons" rather than prostitutes. (Bakunin, however, didn't see much difference between them :D )

Thanks, Zenon!

I've always been both amused and dismayed by the contrast between political theorists and the practical results that followed: amused when I'm sitting in my armchair with a book, dismayed when I think of --or speak with -- the real flesh-and-blood people involved. Bakunin's a great example.

Thanks again,
Steven
