Hi there,

i only collect stamps and know nothing about notes but this was in an album i bought, paper hinged in. The note is in quite good condition, has been folded in the middle lightly, has some signature in top corner and only other thing i can say is that it is not quite cut square at the top? Slight grubby mark second scan top right where hinge was

If it is worth something i will probably sell it as i would rather use the money for stamps, if it is not never mind was freebie as i wanted the stamps..... :)

Thanks for your help

Not my area either, but I do have a 2004 Charlton catalogue on hand. This is #DC-15a.

The way I read the listing, the grade on this would be EF (extra fine) were it not for the hinge mark and the writing on the corner, which I can only presume would knock it down considerably, probably a couple of grades. Bank note collectors are even fussier than stamp collectors.

Values in CDN$ Good $8 Very Good $12 Fine $16 Very Fine $30 Extra Fine $100

I have no idea what has happened to banknote prices in the last 5 years.

Thanks Mike, unfortunate about the hinge mark and particularly the signature, but hey ho, perhaps put it on ebay whatever it makes can be stamp play money :)

Lundy,

You'll need to "sart" it at $12, not $10, so you can pay Glen his consultancy fee

surely my grandfather also told me "it was signed by the note designer who gifted it to him as a "one off, unique item" in return for him saving him from a rogue beaver!"

I could get into this consultant mind set...... :D

Well, this was some time ago, but the note should be "worth" somewhere around $40-$50 CAD. I'd say it's between a VF and an EF.

Good luck! :D

Andy

Apologies Bill and Andy,

I had not seen your replies, it is only now when I have re-found this note that I went to look for this thread and saw your posts.

Andy, thank you very much for your help with regards to a value for this note, I will email Bill and see if he is interested in it for £25 which is approx $40CAD and otherwise offer it in the sales forum here.

Thanks again,

Lundy :D

I remember my grandfather telling me years ago that these 25-cent banknotes were called "shin-plasters" in the 20s and Depression. "Walking-around money", for those lucky to have that much at one time,, more like grocery money for the housewife probably.

I know nothing about bank notes, but its interesting to know that at one stage notes were issued for denominations less than $1. I thought cents were always issued in coin form.

Brilliant! Be sure to put RARE all caps in the title. A good jumbled title of search words helps too.

How about: "RARE Canada Paper 25 cent Money 1900 Signed Antique Nice"

Ebay would cancel your account.

It is prohibited to use correct spelling and real words in ebay headings.

This however would be OK -

"RARRRRRRE Kanada Paper 25 cint papir MONNEY 19@0 Sighned Antigue, Niccccce"

You're right! They would call it keyword spamming.

I have no idea what it's all worth, but I wanted to say all you people have had me laughing out loud with your suggestions for e-bay postings! That was TOO funny!

:D

The partner had two of these notes currently in his collection. 1900 and 1923. There are other years that they were released.

I don't know what he paid for the 1923 copy of the note, but we got the 1900 note for $5 at a flea market just 2 weeks ago.

Here is a link to a site that is active and gives you an idea as to the value
