I'm interested to know why the date error (3 December 1954 instead of 1854) on the insert of the $5 2004 Eureka PNC FDC is not more widely publicised or exploited by sellers. Does anyone expect this will make the product increase in value over time?

100% as far as I am aware, so not an printing error, rather an error by the designer.

I believe the question is answered but agree an image would be nice.

Hi, had no idea there was an error on this PNC!

But, then again, I had never opened mine.

As no one has bothered yet to post an image I thought I might as well, so here is the actual PNC.

The inside piece

and the error

Quite amazing that no one picked up on such a glaring mistake.

I believe it was picked up, but only on the day of the issue and so too late to withdraw.

Thanks Chris, just the same though, it will be a nice little bit of info to add with the cover just for interest sake.

I'm betting 90% of people owning this PNC have never read the insert and wouldn't realise!

Modern technology is not perfect! People never were! Another moment in the history of life! :)

The magazine Scott Stamp Monthly used to have a column every issue that showed such design errors.

There's enough "oops" moments out there they could 'showcase' a 1/2 dozen at a time. Usually they were from IGPC countries--Grenada, Tanzania, that sort of thing--and involved typos in, or outright wrong, scientific Latin names for animals pictured on thematic butterfly/fish/etc output.

How did no-one catch a mistake like this...right up there with American Philatelist's Gilbraltar.

Thanks, Hutch, for posting the image. I'm new to the forum and was trying to work out how to attach an image to my original post with no luck.

I've just worked out now how to attach an image when writing a post so will know for next time. Thanks for your understanding, everyone.

You're welcome vjw011 and welcome to Stampboards! That attaching an image was a big bug bear with me as well when I first joined! Now it's as easy as!

You have to admit aethelwulf that it's going to take a HUGE amount of error to surpass the GIBRALTAR error! I wonder who got the sack over that proof reading!
