I have been watching this for quite a few months (seriously), and it has not sold. The seller worldcurrencyandcoin has nearly 20,000 feedbacks but has this on eBay for USD 20,000,000, Who is ever going to click on this and buy it now, commiting to spending USD 20,000,000?

Here is the listing:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INDIA-1000-1 ... 5d2ce4e503

Image

Part description reads

Quote:
SquareTrade © AP6.0
WE ONLY SELL GUARANTEED GENUINE BANKNOTE AND COINS.

INDIA 1,000Rupees P12 1928 issue King George V Extremely RARE un-recorded and un-listed only piece ever known to exist KARACHI issue office banknote signed by J.B.Taylor,bearing the portrait of KGV and mountain scene, farmer ploughing field, cows on back. Catalog does not reflect at all actual market prices for early Indian portrait notes. NOT TO BE MISSED. The KEY BANKNOTE of INDIA that all collection missing this banknote.

It may be worth what they say it is - banknote prices are way out of my league - , but for USD 20,000,000 at any interest rate, I would have auctioned the damn thing off a year ago, and lived on the interest raised from my Bank Account, which even at 3% could give me a pretty comfortable life style.

From their eBay handle their field of dealing is obviously currency, so you would think they'd think this one through a little better.

Sweden's Tre Skilling banco's last (known) auction price was around $2 million. No idea what the highest prices in the numismatic and deltiology fields are, but to expect that much?

Maybe its the fact its from India, and material from that region has been on the tear. For $20 million you could a handful of Inverted Jennies, with a Post Office Mauritius on the side, and the British Guiana magenta for dessert.

It might be unique, but will the small room of people who are senior-level collectors of this material going to have a bidding frenzy to that price?

And imagine explaining it to the Missus: "Hi Honey, I'm home...listen, I have some news, we're going to have to sell the kid's souls, and the grandkid's, and maybe another 1 or 2 generations depending on what the going price is...you see, there was this banknote for sale on eBay, and its unique you see, so you're now married to the only person in the world who can have a complete collection of King George V India banknotes....Honey, honey why are you packing that suitcase?....."

What a moron.

Even in aUNC it would not get 7 figures.

That dirty rag would not get anywhere close.

Note the seller only has a low rez image of it, the rag is so ugly.

No wonder he has this disclaimer on his lots -

Due to recent changes in Ebay feedback policy any buyer giving negative feedback will be blocked from future buying without exception so if you have any problem email to us at numisphl@pacific.net.sg we will try to resolve your concern as quickly as possible to your satisfaction. Any kind of threatning emails and or remarks, black mailing will be reported immediately to Ebay Trust & Safety Department.

These kind of notes (much better specimens) used to be available for under USD 1000.

IMHO, even that is a criminal waste of money.

How can this intelligent seller even dream of getting USD 20 million when others are selling similar stuff at a fraction of that?

Check out

http://www.ebay.com/itm/India-1000-Rupe ... 563328cd5f

I am not into currency notes but 20 million.....? 20 million is.....well........20 million.

And why should there be only one note in existence of that variety??

There must be more to this than meets the eye..

Yes. You are right. I had corrected the links already but you were too quick for me.

Also, kindly notice the Seller's Motto :

Those who collect currency will ALWAYS have Money!

Perhaps that explains things partly.

Same Monarch, Same denomination, far better piece, not even 1% of the price.

I'm guessing it's being a "Karachi issue" that's supposed to make it unique (if the seller is correct about that, and that's actually significant for the banknote concerned). If so $20K sounds plausible enough even for poor condition, but not $20m!

Both notes are from the same series, check the serial number - there could be more hundred and twenty five thousand of these in circulation at the time of issue. How come it is unique?

Just a thought on this bank note. On the later images in this thread, there is nothing noticeable in the left hand "window".

I did notice in the original post though that there was a clear 'imprint' of the King.

What is actually supposed to be in that window?

Could that be why they have been asking such a high price?

Probably just the scan...the example in the OP captured the image but the example from birder doesn't.

A watermark, for counterfeit prevention?

Only reason they're asking $20million is because they're a Dreamer. Consider that for millions less than that, you could have a fine Monet, a darn nice bit of property in Manhattan...not to mention that nothing numismatic has ever reached anywhere near that amount.

It's got to be just a sales pitch, lost leader, "look at my stuff" joke.

Some of the other rubbish he is still offering includes the 100 trillion Zimbawe note... for $29,000.
Which you can probably locate for a fiver.

(I didn't even think ebay allowed stupid prices and impossible to pay situations such as 20 million)

If the seller has to pay a listing fee, for sure feeBay will allow it.

Different signature - Kelly. Maybe the Taylor signature is scarce.

Exactly - the unprinted area allows the watermark of the King's head to show through. This is just the same as later UK banknotes.

Here's the pic. I haven't got my old Krause album handy. Obviously not worth what they are asking? Should they be on the Dreamers Thread??

I might be a little crazy, but I quite like the design and style of the note...just not the price!

No, because nearly all of his stuff is way overpriced, so his itchy trigger finger must have been stuck on the "," and "0" button on quite a few lisitngs. :D

My goodness, just had a look and it's still available! At least he offers free shipping.
