There's yet another kangaroo issue from Australia Post in July - a sheet for PhilaNippon.

Great sheet -- I wonder where stampchris new avatar had came from. :)

stampchris - do you happen to have the LPO stock code number for that one?

I'll get onto that guy for a few 100 units - look lovely on parcels.

I'm puzzled as to what the $2 rate covers?

I wonder where... About to change to reflect the 2 August issue.

Will ask tomorrow for you.

muruk wrote:

Basically nothing. It is a make up rate, just as the $5 issue was last year. You could use a $2 plus a $1 to make up the $3 rate. Or if you are prepared to spend an extra 20c you could use it for the $1.80 rate. Alternatively a $2 stamp covers the $1.65 Asia/Pacific rate (including the 10% extra).

Don't know what LPO is, but the product ID is 16800671. This from Australia Post site.

I was just reading in the Bulletin that the minisheet comes in both offset and intaglio

firstly can someone explain what those differences mean :?:
How do you tell them apart
and how do you get the intaglio minisheet, it doesn't seem to be listed on Auspost shop website?

What's this you say?

Tis a seasons ticket to Olympex 1956. Cost was 10 Shillings.

Image

I just noticed that the exhibition was held at Preston Motors Showroom, at 104 Russell Street, Melbourne. Those were the days, a car dealership in the middle of Melbourne.

That site is now a high rise BHP building, but is opposite what was the Russell Street, Post Office at the intersection with Little Collins Street. And the Post Office building is now apartments with retail and coffee shops downstairs.

The top one is a post card probably issued for Expo 88. It is/was valid for worldwide postage and is cancelled Expo 29/4/88.

Spotted some more Kangaroos today. There seems to be a plague of them.

This image won't fit on here and I don't have the tools to hand to reduce it.

It's the Philanippon Souvenir Sheet.

http://shop.auspost.com.au/assets/image/productcatalog/6685250.jpg

Can anyone tell me what animal the rabbit is riding. It could be a kangaroo, which would be sacrilege, but it's hard to tell with only part of the animal showing.

I think it's a deer ?

I have seen other deer stamps mis-described as kangaroo

Again from my favourite source today. A couple of Post Cards.

The first is a little faded and is from Victoria.

The Buchan Roos at the Buchan Caves. If you have ever been to Buchan in summer you will also know about the Buchan flies.

Image

This one is older and from the Jenolan Caves.

It's the Australia Post World Exhibition souvenir sheet? Then it has to be a Kangaroo! What would be the point of having a deer on an Australian Sheet like this?

Just guessing.... but I think that is the logo for Phila Nippon 11.
As it occurs on products from other countries too
The Australian part(of the design) was the Christmas Island zodiacs and the Bush Babies minisheet.(pictured up the top of this page)

close up, not a Kangaroo

OK, I've been searching
The Phila Nippon 11 logo depicts part of a scroll. The scroll is recognised as the earliest form of Japanese Manga (cartoons).

Toba's animal scroll paintings, or choju giga satirized life in the Buddhist priesthood by drawing priests as mischievous rabbits.

 sounds like a great one for any "cartoon stamp" collectors :D

and here is the original scroll

click link and scroll right, the rabbit is riding the deer (sika) in the stream, at the end of the scroll.

Released on 11 November for the China 2011 shows.

These mini sheets should be available through post offices that stock philatelic products - Perth already have these.

I used your idea (what is your name for Kangaroo) in a search I have saved and found some interesting lots including the one above.

The search returned items like this one.

Jeannette ... email sent. Thanks. :D

Traralgon ... thanks for those links. I've ordered the Austrian stamp. That has to be one of the cutest kangaroos I've ever seen. :D :D :D

Bit hesitant about the kangaroo boots cover. Not sure I want something promoting kangaroo leather, which I think it is. I've seen that cover before, and it's always expensive. :(

On its way Muruk,

This has nothing to do with stamps, although there's one on the other side

Doing a tidy up and found this. Can't even remember buying it, must have been a gift!

Anyway...

The "stamp" is solid silver.
