Found this while sorting and just can't find any information. Cover was prepared at the time to match up with the release of the US Champion of Liberty series. Must be the 250th anniversary of Heitman Mazeppa; but, the stamp is unknown. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks in advance - Jere

Definitely a "Cinderella" - Ukraine used USSR ("CCCP") stamps at that time for postage.

I suspect it was produced by one of the Ukrainian Societies in USA or Canada; they were quite active in producing "free Ukraine" material. And it is EXTREMELY unlikely that the Soviet authorities would have permitted this kind of "subversion" in the 1950s.

Similar things come up from time to time on covers with postage stamps of the "host" country, which helps to place them, but hopefully someone will be along soon to give a better answer
