This cover with registered marking (Oyugis) was sent from Kendu Bay, Kenya (postmarked Oyugis) to Harper Woods, MI. Kenya posting date is 8 June 1978.On the back, a second register mark is dated 9 June, Kisumu. Two Detroit postmarks: June 13 and 14.

I don't know the recipient, Bill Varner, but the address is literally an easy walking distance from the house where I grew up! Small world.

Any estimates of the value of this kind of cover (ignore the nostalgia)?

To someone collecting "modern Kenya postal history" or "registered mail of the world" or somesuch, maybe a few dollars. If I were putting it on eBay, or in a box of covers in a shop, I'd probably just say $2.99 on it; it has some eye appeal with the block of stamps, and being not from Nairobi or Mombosa, but on the other hand, consider "how much demand will there be for 1970s Kenya covers"?

Thanks, aethelwulf! Today's exercises have done much to place a huge pile of covers in their relative economic context.
