But rest assured, we have a black US President, we have a smoke-free workplace and 25% of the population are sustained by anti-depressant drugs so it really is a better world.

Not quite sure on how to interpret the part about the President.

I did read the article on the Miami Cannibal and all I can say is thank you to the Officer that ended that situation with a 9mm shell. The world is getting crazy, but these things actually have been going on since Jack the Ripper.

Well, according to libdems, demoblicans, republicrats and their media mouthpieces, the birds would sing sweeter, the very air we breath would be fresher, people would be nicer and gentler simply by virtue of OB occupying the oval office and attrocities like this would be unthinkable...but we were told the same thing when slick willie got elected.
Didn't pan out...did it?

I just saw today the story of the Montreal man who mailed the hand and foot to politicians. The cannibal story I've been following since it was reported on Tuesday...have seen a fair number of people making comments along the lines of "wow, Zombie Apocalypse has started!".

Also in Canada, there was a man who murdered the stranger sitting next to him on a Greyhound (coach bus), then proceeded to start eating the victim. He was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic. In an interview published last week, the man said "a voice in his head told him his seatmate was an alien, and that if he killed and ate the 'man', he would save the world."

Then there is this story, just crazy.

Probably the most disturbing thing I have read in quite a while.

Two thoughts on that:

1. Only in the Daily Mail would you find such an article headed "WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT"

2. How on earth do they find a lawyer to DEFEND someone like that???

Simple, they give it hours of media coverage with Anderson Cooper and the Lawyer gets free publicity and and a marquis trial that will now reward him the rest of his career.

What they don't tell him, of course, is that after the successful career is concluded, he will burn in Hell for all eternity

Like the old Lawyer joke.

A stingy old lawyer who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness was determined to prove wrong the saying, "You can’t take it with you."

After much thought and consideration, the old ambulance-chaser finally figured out how to take at least some of his money with him when he died. He instructed his wife to go to the bank and withdraw enough money to fill two pillow cases. He then directed her to take the bags of money to the attic and leave them directly above his bed. His plan: When he passed away, he would reach out and grab the bags on his way to heaven.

Several weeks after the funeral, the deceased lawyer’s wife, up in the attic cleaning, came upon the two forgotten pillow cases stuffed with cash.

"Oh, that darned old fool," she exclaimed. "I knew he should have had me put the money in the basement."

True story:

When my Dad was saving money by doing jobs himself instead of getting a tradesman in, Mum would say to him "spend some of that money, you can't take it with you!".

His answer was always "Well, I'm not going anywhere until I can!".

Last year he died at the ripe old age of 90, so we put a ÂŁ10 note (bill) in his funeral suit pocket.

And I'm pleased to report that Sid Harrison did, indeed "take it with him"

They caught the Porn killer that sent the body parts to the Canadian Liberal and Conservative parties in Germany. He also sent a hand and foot to two elementary schools in British Columbia.

After a whole lot of bucks and private military flight he's back here now and plead innocent two days ago.

Like most of us that keep track of the news we become disconected from this perverse violence.

Two days ago I woke up turned on the local news and noted a local story of a possible homicide in my neighbourhood. Went to work and joked that my nieghbourhood was becoming the new Jane and Finch of Toronto.

I sobered up when my wife met me at the door and asked if I heard the news. I asked why, she took me out to our back yard deck pointed to the police tape attached to our north east corner post of our fence.

I sat out there most of the night, watching the police strobes, shocked at how close to home violence can happen, 100 feet from my open bedroom window, and remembered the strong family and nieghbourhood ties I grew up with as a youth and how much I've changed and disconnected from neighbours since moving to the big smoke.

I wondered about the military plane thing, and CBC must have realized everybody would be wondering and coming out crying foul about the waste of taxpayer funds.

The explanation the news story had was that the police did contact commercial airlines first, and nobody would accept the prisoner and his 'entourage'. Not surprising. :!:

Further, if the plane stopped for refueling, once on the ground, the accused could claim asylum from the country the plane was refueling in, and that would create more legal headaches. Consider the case of the Chinese businessman who lived a decade or more in a posh Vancouver condo, fighting extradition back to China. He finally exhausted his court appeals, was sent back, and a couple weeks ago was sentenced to a long stay in prison for fraud/bribery matters.

Apparently the plane was already over in Europe anyways, and carried a bunch of military and government staffers, so it wasn't like when Peter Mackay had a plane pick him up from holiday and fly him around to PR events.

Adding to the rash of violence in Canada lately was the shooting on the U of Alberta campus. The first stories about that were reporting that it was a shooting on campus. True enough...and it worried one of my co-workers, whose husband had been an asst prof there last year. As it turned out, an armoured car guard shot his colleagues when they were filling ATM machines, and it happened to be at a stop on the campus, nothing affecting or involving students.

What a noob that guy was, talk about short-sightedness, tempted by the bag of money and thinking you can just run off with it. He lasted about 2 days, before being picked up at the US border crossing.

For Magnotta to plead not guilty is stupid, when he was arrested he was sitting at an internet cafe reading stories about himself. The pieces all connect him to the victim, he just wants to drag things through a trial so he can't get maximum media attention. The court should impose a media blackout so that nothing about his is shown or reported, that would fix his attention-seeking. :o

Excuse me, what the hell are you talking about? I voted for Obama and never thought it would be a perfect world as a result. Neither did most of them others who did so, as well. I am going to assume you had your tongue planted firmly in your cheek when posting this..
