I have totally no idea what this is all about, being a totally non-athletic, non-sport fan of any sort but for the heck of it:

So Norm seeing tips are spread over a few pages already, if someone tipped 165 and then later noticed that had already been tipped, we are NOT allowing them to take another guess at it, if done before Grand final kick off???

Makes for more posts, and far more member participation, covering more possibles that way. We are getting many new members adding their guesses here after my member email, so need to make it as simple as possible to do so. :)

Ann Wiggy mentioned she is keeping a log of numbers posted thus far .. maybe if she (or others) posts that list up now and again this week, it will assist members to choose a number NOT already taken?

Glen, people can make multiple posts. As you quoted above, I said if more than one post is made, the last post made will be the selected number for the prize , which means that all earlier posts from the same member will be invalidated.

Anyway, I have a personal rule. It seems that every time I post during Grand Final week, Geelong lose, and the years I don't post they win.

I do try to stay out of the comp. during the week, call it my free time, and as you know it is easy enough to find a winner pretty quickly through the search function, and a bit of scanning on the thread.

To make this clear, if anybody is not confident that their earlier tip will win, then repost with another number. The earlier tip will be disregarded, and the latter tip counted.

I'm not sure that I can be clearer with that, and thought that it was clear the first time around.

Norm

Yes that is how I imagined the rules would be, however what you actually posted to clarify it was -

fromdownunder wrote:

One post per customer

Ok, so crosscresent and others are now free to make a new guess, seeing the first number they chose, was already guessed at by others.

Let the entries roll in - 100 untaken guesses might still be possible winners! :)

Well it is far more than 100. As I posted earlier

Quote:
The highest ever aggregate was 327 points Carlton vs Richmond in 1972

The lowest ever aggregate was 38 points Collingwood vs Richmond in 1927

OK, 1927 was a loooonnnng time ago and an unbelievably wet day, before curators discovered drainage, and 1972 was one of the very rare Grand Final shootouts (so was 1989, and shut up Peter) but lots of numbers, far more than 100, are still there.

Just don't take my guestimate as to the potential total score as Gospel, and pick what you want.

Yes and wet day/dry day can make a big score difference in AFL.

Wet day usually means far lower scores.

Been raining in Sydney for 24 hours now so a final played today would be a scrappy mess. 8)

Hi All,

I just did a quick check to make sure my tip was not already entered and here are all the numbers submitted so far - including the duplicates (in ascending order).

So check here to see if the number you want is already gone or not.

I hope I got them all.

Good luck

167.

I think there will be a lot of minor scores. For anyone overseas there are four goalposts.

You get six points for kicking the ball through the middle posts and one point if it goes either through the outside two posts, or goes through the middle but is touched by an opposing player or goes through off of a part of the body other than the boot.

You can also get nine points if you kick a goal from outside 50 metres.

Not in the AFL competition, well not yet and hopefully never. This has been trialed in pre- season competitions, but is not part of the regular season.

I'll take 149, thanks.

I may be wrong but I think that lawrence 271, baggy and jjarmstrong have taken numbers that have been claimed beforehand.

They may care to post again. Thanks Lakatoi, and as usual thanks Norm.

Baggy, there are two 198's on the list and if you go back you'll see that 196 is taken. So that 198 is a typo, I'd say.

I am not sure why you included some of the numbers twice ... since if a number is picked that has previously been picked by someone else, then it doesn't count, and it only adds to the confusion.

Baggy is OKAY with the 196.

Lawrence271 is NOT okay with 189 (and must pick another).

jjarmstrong is NOT okay with 167 (and must pick another).

You have to read the list of numbers already selected, so you don't take one that doesn't count.

AAhh! I remember 1989, a terribly good year for the Mighty Hawks, finally got a back to back (after winning every second year during the 1980s).

Now somebody remind me, who was it played in the GF again? Never mind, Norm, you could have been a Melbourne supporter and the year 1991.

In good Melbournian tradition for non Collingwood supporters I hope Geelong wins but just by a point.

With a kick after the final siren, of course. :D

...and following a 50 metre penalty and taken from 60 metres out with Geelong 5 points down at the time.

Just back from a 24 day European vacation. Walked my a$$ off! Back home in Canada now to recuperate.

Will try my luck for a 206 total.

Thanks Norm for all the hard work running this competition, and to those that have offered prizes throughout the weeks.

Regards,
Norm D.

Well, far less than 24 hours to go, and it looks like it is going to be rather a wet day, which is likely (although not for sure) lead to a lower score (it is presently pouring rain in Beautiful Downtown Lara) .

So, coming down to the wire, and given the weather, AND as permitted, members may change their initial tips, and members who have not selected may want to try for the lower end on my initial guess as to the final result.

As noted earlier in this thread, the lowest ever Grand Final score was in fact a lowly 38 and in the wettest muddiest slushiest conditions possible. Of course the ground management and the 'G has changed a lot since 1927. So 38 is rather unlikely.

Tips will close at 2:30PM AEST on Saturday 1st October 2011.

It's approaching 11:00am AEST.

Anyone wanting to tip the total points for the Grand Final, needs to do it before the start of the game.

Good Luck to all tipsters and GO CATS.

Bill

It seems to be pouring rain at the 'G right now. and there is plenty of low cloud cover over beautiful down town Lara (which is where the weather will come from, heading 35 miles north), so I am beginning to suspect that a lower score will occur, say under 150.

Less than three hours to go for validated tips.

Gawd Allmighty. The pre-show has started and Meat Loaf is showing me that people should know when their time is up. He can't hit the high's anymore and whoever the young lady is who is backing him up, she is not. She is showing him up as somebody who has passed their use by date.

I will put it as politely as possible. He is bloody awful, and just missed a high note so badly it almost made me want to throw up.

So what you are saying is:

Meatloaf sings as bad as Gene Simmons looks.
