Just to check out what is a weather a like in rest of world  Sarajevo today is officially covered in ice! Snow is over 100 cm all around (highest in last 120 years) and it is still snowing.

Most of the streets are closed for cars, except few main roads but there is very little traffic anyway. I'll post few pics tomorrow to show how it looks like. Even river is partially frozen :? Haven't seen it in my 30 years in Sarajevo!

Wow - that's some snowfall. We've had our first snow of the winter here today - about 1cm!

Poland, near Lublin, -23 degrees C. Still snow on the ground But it is also ice and quite slippery. Water frozen in the pipes inside the house (well, in the cellar below the house) which took me 3 hours this morning to get running again then out to the car..no start, battery frozen so 2 hours on a quick charger before I got the engine to turn over.

Top temperature today of -16 degrees C. Temperature has not been above that for 3 days now, the longest lowest period for a long time.

Now sitting having dinner and a tasty white wine. The half empty bottle is sitting outside the side door in the 'natural refrigerator' keeping (increasingly) cold.

Bottle now only quarter full and not from evaporation.

Love the snow pics!

Something we never really see here.

Summer here in sub-tropical Queensland.

This means heat and humidity - and rain!

Did I mention "rain"?

Check the rainfall chart below for Biggera Creek Dam (500 metres from home)

25th. January 2012:- 243 millimetres (9½ inches) in 24 hours!

Official record last morning was -35 C. This night it could get as low as -37 C.
Luckily it was a real sunny day so it went as high as -20 C.
Deepest snow where I live, about half meters but it only snowed seriously in January
and not much has been added in last week or even more. Seeing how bad it was in Finland
yesterday and today in Sarajevo, things could get even more white.

Well, as long as waterpipes don't freeze and it will not last for another week, it's nothing serious.

I predict a hot summer :D

Thank for the pics Pitronix.

Sometimes when it gets seriously hot and you are dripping with sweat all day you really feel like flying somewhere and rolling in snow (all of our SE Asian and north Queensland members reading this will be nodding)....however, your pictures are a reality check!

Everything looks very eerie and post-apocalyptic.....I'm guessing everyone just has to hunker down and wait for some thawing before life can resume?

Crazy winter. London Heathrow is cancelling flights in anticipation.
England is in panic.

Up here in Aberdeen 400 miles nearer the Arctic ------------

------We haven't seen a single snowflake all January . been incredibly dry!

I bought 200kg of rocksalt to de-ice my drive, I'll have to save it for next winter!!

All my Sympathy Pitronix ---mega serious problems your side!

Crazy winter here. Green Christmas, Green New years, Green Birthday, Green now. Can't ever remember that happening in the 35 years I’ve been in Canada.

Hope any members in the affected areas stay safe. On the humorous note, my mom is flying in to Gatwick today from Tenerife or supposed to. Won't she be surprised to find more snow in England than in Canada.

Margo, has Sydney had another day above 30 yet this summer? That would make it 2, if it has. :)

Yesterday in Melbourne it was hot (mid 30s) with a gale blowing, first day of Total Fire Ban for the summer. Luckily a change came through and we had a fair bit of rain (interrupted the cricket, which was a bit unfortunate).

Very pleasantly cool today (low 20s).

Europe should, perhaps, be grateful for global warming? Imagine what it would be like without the warming!

Well that is why there are no Australians in the TOBOGGAN events at the Winter Olymics - you folks get to practice free for months in your own streets!

If it were the "good old days" of communism, people would probably say "ahhh, we can't complain, at least there's a pathway".

Well this time I had to take a commi side  If it was in given period army and convicts would be cleaning streets and there is no chance that city would end up paralyzed. Respect given where respect is due!

P.S. Help us, we accept all kind of philatelic donations with coins topic, Germany and related and ex-Yu related, we are in desperate situation and help is really needed, this is urgent call for help, every stamp counts in ice covered Sarajevo, we can't survive long without help    8)

Last winter I witnessed the local fire brigade in NY cleaning snow from sidewalks where there were no houses or businesses. My hats off to these guys and gals who go above and beyond the call of duty.
