Gary,

I wanted to say something, to say we care, and we feel your hurt. But words are so useless just when you want them most.

So God bless.

Around my heart I wrap a ribbon of rememberance and I pause,
In my head I imagine the pain of loss and I reflect,
With my hands I hold anothers and say a thankful prayer,
For with my eyes I see a yellow ribbon and celebrate the life of friends.

-I would have put that in Yellow but couldn't read it!

(Sorry if that's a bit mushy, last year was a bad one in so many ways, and Oh so close in others)
I have friends who were very lucky that day and my relatives for but a change of wind would have been right in the middle of it all.

Please post a photo of a ribbon for all those who can't get one and pause and reflect.

Our thoughts are with all those who still deal with such pain. You are not alone and are among friends.

Wow, nice photo.
I have a thought....

A bit of poetry and the nice photo above would make a great maximum card / postcard / thankyou card. Coupled with a personalised stamp with yellow Ribbon?

And send one to a friend, the fire stations, and local communities on behalf of our Philatelic Fraternity?

Gary, your stoicism has been inspirational, and we can have no concept of the pain you suffered. Will be thinking of you.

I know it's not the date yet - but it is the Day, Saturday.

Our thoughts are with you today Gary.

So I'll just reach out through the screen and offer an electronic hug, a friendly smile and I hope your doing OK.

The thoughts and prayers of ALL Australians will be for those who suffered during that terrible day.

May you find the inner strength that will be needed on the anniversary of Black Saturday.

Best Wishes

Garry,
Thank you for posting that link. I...ah...had difficulty watching that interview. As I'm having trouble typing a reply through blinking the tears away. (Yes even cranky Scottish descendants can shed a tear!)

I admire your courage and strength. And for letting people know that its good - often nessasary - to find someone to talk it out with. May the events of this day never be repeated.

The memorial garden is a wonderful idea. A place of peace and a place to remember - lovely.

My family and I saw the entire interview on ABC TV Melbourne.

Your courage, in the face of extreme adversity, was so plain for everyone to see.
All our problems and hassles paled into insignificance as we heard you tell your story.

Take Care, Gary.

Another year rolls by so quickly and Mon 7th Feb marks the 2nd anniversary of these devastating fires.

This year many more Australian hearts are broken by the grief disasters bring - more fires have flared and more home losts just today, the floods of Rockhampton district, Brisbane, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Granton, down through NSW into Victoria.

Then the biggest Cyclone Australia has ever seen strikes Cairns, Innisfail and districts, wiping out livelihoods and homes, all marking dark periods of out recent history.

Our thoughts and prayers and messages of comfort go out to all those who feel the pain these anniversaries will bring.

Please, take a moment today just to pause and remember, reflect and give thanks for friends and life and to ponder what's important over the petty.

Whatever colour ribbon you wear today, we remember.

Western Australia, 68 homes lost, many destroyed, etc BUT the most important statistic NO LIVES LOST
Finally they have learnt the lessons of Black Saturday. PEOPLE first.

Everything else can be replaced.

Words

Words... Just words...

So, why so hard to say

exactly what it is we mean

through life, and day to day?

I guess that it's emotion

that's standing in the way,

depriving us of sharing

what we need to say.

We're taught so young,

to never cross the line

of letting anybody know

what it is that's on our mind.

Some... they find the courage

while others never do,

To let someone know that they're thinking of them

or to say the words of "I Love You"

All the rest, they have to hope

That Love will find a way

and God above will help us find

the Words we need to say.

Drew Thompson

Your loss is felt all over the world and our prayers go out to you all.

I also just noticed that there is a thread for the Adrian Brown Memorial Trust stamp coming out in March. Fantastic idea! Anyone who is watching this thread and hasn't seen the other should check it out. www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=25754

In 2 days it will be three years since the most lives were lost in a single disaster in Australia's History [other than war]

I want to share with you the following

I thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too,
I think of you in silence
I often speak your name
All I have are memories
and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake
with which I will never part
your spirit lives within me,
forever in my heart

I am sure most Victorians will remember the third anniversary tomorrow, most will have a tear in their eye (I know I will). Black Saturday was Australia's worst peacetime disaster and certainly the worst natural disaster in our history.

Yesterday was eerily similar to the weather on that dreadful day. We had the first Total Fire Ban of the season, with hot weather and extremely strong winds. Luckily, a change came through in the afternoon, bringing rain and a large drop in temperatures. No major fires were started yesterday, but the circumstances, for much of the day, were ripe for it.
