I was very sorry to see news of the death of Marie Colvin overnight. She was killed in Syria, in the city of Homs (from which she has been reporting on the unfolding tragedy of the seige of that city). A French photo journalist, Remi Ochlik, was killed alongside her. Witnesses report that she was deliberately targeted by Assad forces.
Marie Colvin could be found anywhere there was conflict, reporting honestly and with humanity. She championed the innocent victims of conflicts and had been particularly scathing of the action of the Assad regime as regards Homs.

Well, with no disrespect to the Duchess, I would say rather that the Duchess "was introduced to Marie Colvin".
Another decent and fearless journalist (they are a diminishing breed) has left us the better for her having been here and the lesser for her going too soon.
