Is anyone else watching the IPL 2012 (Indian Premier League 20/20 cricket) ?

I've just noticed that the IPL has started again. For those not familiar with this competition, I'll give a quick introduction. This competition consists of 9 teams playing each other, making a total of 72 matches. The top 4 teams then play each other.

Further details of this competition can be found at http://www.iplt20.com

Ya. Just to kill time. Chennai super kings is the team I support. Twice IPL champions and once Champions league champion too.

I just scrolled through the next three days listings on Foxtels Sports Channels. There are a couple of live Test Broadcasts, but I could not find any IPL games at all. I am certain that they showed these matches last year.

Lots of interest in Australia, because there are a lot of Australians in the competition, plus Aaron Finch, a Geelong boy whom my son played junior cricket against a few years back.

Yes... That was the first day controversy over here. Australian media being blacked out of IPL 5. Do not know the reason but local newspapers here where wondering what is wrong with these people who provide media rights.

I know that a lot of Australian fans follow IPL and even in my team CSK Michael Hussey is one player who gets great fan support from localites..

Aaron Finch plays for Delhi Daredevils and they had a win a couple of days ago against Kolkatta Knight Riders in a rain affected 12 overs a side match. Aaron scored 30 runs of the target of around 100

drvvr , if you feel up to it, it would be nice to see match results, and who did what (spectacular "whats" only of course) here. I just watched the Long Lunch on Foxtel's Sports News Channel and not a word about IPL matches. I would like to have some idea what is happening over there without having to google eveything.

Hi drvvr, I'm currently watching the CSK (Chenai Super Kings) play DC (Deccan Chargers) on ITV4 in the UK.

They are showing all the matches live! They have shown all the previous 4 tournaments.

I think the CSK should win this match easily. Especially after posting 193 in their 20 overs.

Hi Norm, if you are looking for match results and video highlights, then the Indian Premier league's own site www.iplt20.com is very good and even has ball by ball live commentary.

Norm, I shall try to do a sort of sum up every day if possible.

Today in the first match Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB henceforth) Played Delhi Daredevild (DD henceforth)..

RCB went without their star batsman Gayle but his replacement AndrewMc Donald (an Aussie.... new to us) gave a good start and set up 158 target.

DD were bundled out for 137 chiefly due to damage by the spin king Muralidharan.

Next was CSK (chennai super kings) vs Deccan chargers (DC)

After the dismal performance against Mumbai Indians in their 1st match Chennai were supposed to come back and they did in style.

Du plessis started the rain of sixers and Ravindra Jadeja (costliest buy this IPL) continued. A cameo from Bravo at end meant the target was 194.... CSK innings had 12 sixes.

DC were never in race but were 99/4 at one time when Jadeja came back well with ball to get a five-for to cause a mini collapse (6 wickets for 25 runs).

CSk got their 1st win and DC thrown to bottom of table.

Tomorrow Rajasthan Royals RR vs Kolkatta Knight Riders KKR
and Pune Warriors PW v Kings XI Punjab KP.

Rajasthan Royals RR vs Kolkatta Knight Riders KKR

Rajasthan Royals 164 for 5 (Hodge 44, Menaria 40, Lee 2-29) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 143 (Tiwary 59, Cooper 3-28) by 22 runs

Royals played a typical t20 innings and a score of 160+ was put up. They have never lost a match in Jaipur after a 160+ score and KKR never were in with a chance of breaking their record after thay lost their top 3 in a span of 3 balls. It was just formalities then which dragged the remainder.

Pune Warriors PW v Kings XI Punjab KP.

Pune Warriors 166 for 6 (Samuels 46, Uthappa 40, Harmeet 3-24) beat Kings XI Punjab 144 for 8 (Bipul 35, Sharma 2-34) by 22 runs

A new stadium added to IPL. The Pune stadium hosted its first match and the host won their 2nd match in a row with ease.

Pune were poised for a below par score only till 19th over when some murderous hitting by Steve smith and manish pandey saw them score 27 of that over. The 20th over produced 3 dot balls but the target was a very good one.

Kings 11 Punjab..... Oh dear dear.... I think this team is going to fight for bottom spot.... Like GWS in AFL???

No great batsmen.... No great bowler... No noteworthy allrounder... Oops.... I did forget Gilchrist.... But shouldn`t there be 11 cricketers the team could bank upon???

Gilchrist failed today. So did the team.

Weekends over.... So just one match per day henceforth..

Tomorrow`s match...

DC vs MI

If drvvr is watching his beloved CSK (Chenai Super Kings) in the current match against DD (Delhi Daredevils) he must be ready for a stiff drink.

A total of 110 with 4 run outs! (I think they need some calling practice) is surely going to be inadequate against the quality batting line up of DD. With the likes of Sehwag and Ojha opening, and Pietersen and Jayawardene to follow, it should be all over inside 15 overs to send CSK crashing to their second loss of the tournament.
