Firefox 4 is probably the most un-successful "new" Product since the "New Coke Formula" and the Ford Edsel!

It has been a DISASTER for me, and many others I know.

The cgi order form button on my own website does not work for anyone using Firefox 4 - try it to do a dummy order and see - http://www.glenstephens.com/order.html

Give it a try .. don't use credit card etc .. just type gibberish for most of it and add your stampboard handle up top somewhere.

I'll be amazed if anyone using a PC and Firefox 4 can get the form to transmit .. report your YES or NO success here please!

Darn annoying - and folks take ages ordering, they press the button, assume it has gone though, go to their next website, and sadly nothing ever reaches me. Annoyed clients, and large loss of money for me.

Tonight I tried to book a complicated multi city International itinerary on the United Airlines site. Spent 30 minutes getting it right, went right to "Purchase" page and the SAME issue ..... click "BUY" button - and ZILCH.

Removed Firefox 4, did it all again, and worked fine using the "old" Firefox 3.6.

Thanks Firefox for wasting a good hour of my time tonight.

Tech boards all over the globe have reported these glitches for quite a while on order form buttons, and the geeks there at Firefox seem to be all asleep at the wheel.

Bill Gates must be laughing his head off - as now THEY have Microsoft's VISTA disaster update on their hands.

Microsoft did not fix that either, and folks still use it as an example of an "UPDATE" that should never have been released as the bugs were never Beta Tested out.

AVOID the free update to FIREFOX 4 - there are zero plusses that I can see and a LOT of minuses.

I use Firefox 4.0.1 - have noticed no problems.

Have tried a test order for you - sent about 08:20am board time. Got your - Thank you for your order - it has been successfully transmitted ... page.

I've also used it successfully on delcampe and probably ebay, although I can't remember when the update came out.

Did it appear at your end

I've been using Firefox 4.0.1 for a while now with no issues.

I just sent a dummy trial order page through to you with no hiccups from my end.

Try synchronising Firefox and check that the plugins are all up to date.

It also could be an extension issue with one of the programs you're running. Clear the error console (accessed through the Tools menu at the top of the screen), open your website, run the load up sequence, then check the error console warnings again. That should identify the problem. Cut and paste the message and send to Mozilla and they'll let you know the issue and how to resolve it quickly.

However, as you've gone back to the earlier version and all your programs run OK, just stick with that for the time being.

I had issues with the latest Internet Explorer so I changed to Firefox and it's a much better browser IMO.

My order went through with a 'Thank you' too Glen, so you aren't losing customers which is the main thing.

2.14pm - successful transmission message received via Firefox 4.0.1.

Less than 2 weeks before Firefox 5 is released. The Beta is already available. It is supposed to fix oodles of bugs.

I love the speed of Firefox 4 but have kept Chrome for some sites, specially for printing very long pages which Firefox does not handle well. I find you have to keep trying the new versions as they come up, sometimes you upgrade, sometimes you dont. Of course you would have fewer problems if using a Mac

However a LOT of clients have emailed they cannot order - the button just does not work for them.

I don't know, whatever happened to testing stuff first?

Imagine if the Internet software programmers were responsible for improving the performance of your car! Another Ford Pinto?

Don't they ever actually try their own improvements to see if they work?



On another note, I have just downloaded and installed the greatest thing since sliced bread (for me anyway) "Team Viewer" - wonderful!

I brought the rest of my work home (leaving the computer running at work) and finished it off via remote (from home using the work computer over the net!) after my migraine went away, free! Lovely.

I see a lot of threads like this, some "great" new software update - in IE or Firefox etc ... There are always bugs!

Which is why I am still using an ancient version of Internet Explorer. Works fast enough and perfectly fine for me, and I have antivirus software which does a daily upgrade.

Ahhh you can just smell the serenity!

Unfortunately I don't get paid unless the jobs done and it's very hard to look at the screen when your seeing 3 of them. Hate deadlines.

At least the process by that stage involves not much more than "push the next button" and wait 1hr then push the next button. But someone has to actually push the button.

And if not on time then I have 500 crew screaming "where's my pay!".


Tassie - unfortunately, eventually, you have to upgrade. I just try and not do it when it's a version x.0.0. I'll wait for x.1 or .2 as that's usually most bugs ironed out.

Nothing new in this - I worked on a Help Desk in the 1980s and everytime there was a new release we'd have dozens of users ringing to report faults.

When I asked the programming team whether they tested the software before releasing, they just shrugged and said "we know if it doesn't work becuase hundreds of users scream at you then you scream at us"....
