This is one of my favourites. I have some larger blocks but this is the only one I've scanned for now.

All I know is that it is some kind of receipt from a post office and the stamps are official stamps used during the German hyperinflation period.

This is a run sheet from a PO teller at the time.

The first column obviously is for the date.
2nd:Stck. short for Stueck, number of items posted
3rd:Gegenstand Subject or item descrption; such as Brief (letter), Eingeschriebener Brief ( Registered Letter)Postkarte (Postcard) Nachnahme ( Cash on Delivery) for service or goods bought.
4th:Empfaenger Name of receiver.
5th:Best.Ort short for Bestimmungs Ort Name of town/village where the goods are adressed to.
6th:Betrag amount paid.

The scarce 1940 6d AIF top value in good used, nicely centred, postally used block 4 - "1941 BOOVAL QLD" - SG 199, cat £96 as 4 singles.

Everyone knows my view on the future value of postally USED blocks 4 of Australia. 8)

Not strictly a block I know, but nice and unusual all the same. I suppose you could describe it as a Se-Tenant, Traffic Light, Gutter, Marginal Block. :D GB 12 Days of Christmas 1977

Oh, "quality" is so subjective. I don't have any mint GB blocks (I wish). How about this block of four 1d reds from plate 62 ?

Chris.

That's a great block Chris!

CHzug1291,

Thanks and appreciate the translation.
At least I have some idea what the columns are instead of trying to guess them.

How about a block with literally a "killer" cancellation?

With the help of the regular canceller the parcels one was able to cover the rest.

Unfortunately NZ Post seem to be one of the worst offenders when it comes to "over" cancelling stamps.

There current efforts with roller cancels are often total obliterators

Mind you the efforts of the Melbourne GPO in the early 1900's were similarly "enthusiastic".

These were obviously ONE unit at one time, but were seperated before I got them (obviously they'd been folded and/or pulled apart):

Its worth noting that the strips contain many identified varieties according to Adams, Bell & Pope (the new 'Bible' for 1d Red 'Roo collectors!)

Hi Peter

Well, you know what they say: 'If you've got it, flaunt it!!' :D

I'm currently breaking my accumulation up in order to sell it.....I simply don't have the time to devote to it that it deserves. I've counted all my loose stamps (well over 15000) and they'll go to auction with Prestige (or Stanley Gibbons/Mowbrays) in the short term.

My 'better quality' items (such as those above and the one below), I'll sort into small packages when time allows.....it's a heart-wrenching exercise, but I have to be realistic.

This is SG 9 Malaya. BMA. Its the die II and each time I see it, it causes me some amusement, and a little sadness. I got it sometime in the early 80's from a ChCh dealer called Bruce Alexander. Regretfully he died some time ago, however I'm sure there is a few ChCh stampers that remember him with fondness.

I knew bruce and would usually visit his shop about two or three time a month. Mostly on a Saturday morning. One saturday I was browsing the straits books and came across this block. Bruce has it marked at $1.25 and I could clearly see it was a die II.

I ask him in my best casual voice what he wanted for this. He looked and said. "$1.25." I continued to browse and selected a few other low priced SS. Then again I asked him what he had on the block? Again he looked and said. "$1.25!" I took a few other stamps then said I would take the block because $1.25 was a fairly good price.

As he tallied up I asked if there was anything wrong with the block as it did not look right. He picked it up and looked then said. "All right, you can have it for a dollar." I took it and paid. Then told him it was a die II. Bruce as always was good humoured, and when I offered it back, he had to think for a minute then said he would take it out of the boys pay!! I think he may have been refering to a present member here?

I bought this block as a Christmas pressie for me!

½d Vermillion block of 15 from the upper right corner of the lower pane, right sheet.
This is from the Lady Mairi Bury collection auctioned recently.

Image

the top left stamp in the block has a flaw as shown below

Ugly is the new black.....love it! Merry Christmas Tony, I am going to be making my QV Empire Indian pages for my stamp album in the next few weeks, I may need to ask some questions if you don't mind me picking your brains a bit,
Cheers, Don.

Don, I'll be delighted to help - after that liberal application of best butter

Don't expect too much in the way of British India, though: however, there are others here who can guide you.
