I would like to share some images of large size QV stamps.

I hope members would like to comment on these.

1. The pair of One Rupee and Eight Anna stamps often found on Hundis.

Image

2. The five rupee stamps found on Court documents.

More to follow.

very nice. I love these stamps and have quite a few of the lower values. Are they worth anything?

Jeremy29,

I do not have much idea of market values for these stamps. But I love them very much. For me they are invaluable.I have most of the smaller Anna values also.Which are the ones that you have? Post some images please.

Thanks and regards.

These are June 1879 cancels.
Notice that the denomination as well as the date, both form part of the elaborate cancellation.

Thanks and regards

These are nice stamps. As per value, these seems to be quite popular and therefore the price of them is quite high despite of high quantities printed. Values above 50 rupees are quite rare.

Impressive-looking, as you'd expect for that amount of money

(The last two are intact. I just forgot not to place them too near the top of my scanner :( )

A more modest value - 5 Rupees - but nice to see it on its original document

Image

The document also has an affidavit attached attesting to the signature, and with a New South Wales 1/- Stamp Duty stamp as well. Unfortunately, the old foolscap page is just too long to fit on my scanner: it cuts off the bottom of the page, with most of the NSW duty stamp. (A bob for an affidavit seems rather stiff, though  )

The NSW Stamp Duty adhesive is not visible at all. Can we get to see it?

Also the embossed Stamp Office appears to be a Queen's Head One Anna from Calcutta. Can this be scanned separately?

Thanks and regards.

Seriously, though, I had no idea they were of any interest or value. Not my subject - I just acquired then in the course of picking up other things. Here are better scans, and also an example of a 50 Rupee:

The Stamp office Jan 86 "Collectorate" stamp emboss is very good. There is no Queens Head. I had never seen the NSW duty either.
These are "lifers" for me.
"Lifer" is a term we frequently use in birding for the first (and often ONLY) visual sighting of a rare bird.
Tony Sir, you continue to amaze with these glimpses from your collection.

Thanks and regards.

Thanks, Ikanek!

Do you have any idea of their value? As I don't really need them, I'd be happy to offer some spare 50 and 100 Rupees for sale here, if there was any interest.

British India revenues are only "the border" area for me. I have the latest Blatt, Heppel, Mollah handbook but not with me. I will look for it during weekend if nobody else put values here.
But I am pretty sure that there are two (or three?) versions of watermarks, so checked them carefully for spare copies.

Thanks, Jiri. As these are on piece, and I'd rather not soak them off, I may have to try to identify the likely watermark by date.

Still, if it's worth offering them, I probably should do so. There's no point in me hanging onto them if another collector could make good use of them :D

Very nice, birder. These embossed designs are pretty good, from many Indian states similar series exist but embossing is generally not so strong and scanning (and subsequent viewing) is problematic. It remembered me that I have a combination of embossed design with Congreve type.

They are really seldom seen here. Here is one I listed for sale - only document I've sighted in years of dealing -

Well spotted Ikanek. You are right once again.
The embossed stamp I have posted is also from a congreve stamp paper.
I would like you to confirm the year of the embossed stamp as 1867 since the "6" appears to be kinda funny.

Thanks and regards.

There's a lot more of them in my archive... they're pretty common in the UK strangely enough!

Hi GlobalAdmin, that is a very nice example of fiscal usage. Too bad the stamp is not QV. Thanks for sharing.

NotBruce your examples of KEVII are very nice. I have a good representative sampling of these in my collection. Am now collecting QV.

Some of my Australian stamps (medium size and not gigantic) are:

Actually, we're getting a bit off-topic here, but it has reminded me to add my South Australia revenues (postal fiscals) to the archives which I will do in a moment!

Several lettering styles exist with Court Fee overprints, downwards or upwards, red or black, with bar or without, and on several series.
I think that some of them very later overprinted in few Indian States such as Berar for use.

These aren't revenues... these are WH Smith cut-outs from newspaper wrappers which are currently another thread on the board...

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=20958&p=2182163&e=2182163

These are worth a few pounds as they're not often seen in this condition although it's a real shame they've been cut-round rather than square.

Wild guess is that you'd get £40-50 for them on eBay.

This thread is fantastic!

I don't collect, nor have I ever seen, these stamps but I just love the esoteric nature of postings like this.

By the way, is there any significance to some stamps having a punched hole, and others not so disfigured?

The stamps were punched to prevent re-use.

The shape of the hole punch is also important. The Round punch was for court, The Triangular punch was for records and the square punch was for copies.

Thanks and regards.

I'm sure there's much better one's than these out there!

Or maybe something from the Stamp Office (including one from the East India Company)...

Thanks for showing me the difference between Victoria (VR) stamp papers and East India Company (EIC) papers. Something new to learn on Stampboards each day.

Also, my collection of Hundis is on www.indianhundi.wordpress.com

Kindly check it out.

Thanks and regards.
