That's a very impressive collection, I particularly like the Edward VII and the Travancore ones - excellent!

Cheers,

Also this series was used for overprinting to supply some of the poorest Indian state with appropriate overprints - namely Berar, Vichoor, Peint, Mysore, Pal Lahara and maybe some others. This is issue from 1872 and most Indian state used later issues - 1882, 1903, 1913, 1938.

I think that the Head is Die II (large comma in chignon) and the frame is Die I.

Fiscal cancels and Court cancels were in the form of punches- Round, Square, Triangular etc.

Ikanek has discussed them earlier in this thread.

Some specimens from my collection of Orange coluoured Small Cause Court stamps :

Section 30 of the Court Fees Act, 1870 :

No document requiring a stamp under this Act shall be filed or acted upon in any proceeding in any court or office until the stamp has been cancelled.

Such officer, as the court or the head of the office may from-time to time appoint, shall, on receiving such document, forthwith effect such cancellation by punching out the figurehead so as to leave the amount designated on the stamp untouched, and the part removed by punching shall be burnt or otherwise destroyed.
