Big thanks to Norm again for all his hard work....WELL DONE!!!!!

Would not be surprised if Gold Coast beat Hawthorn who have rested half their side....but as the game has no effect on anything other than ruining dream team/fantasy grand finals...probably a smart move considering they have to front up 6 days later against Norm's mighty Cats!

Collingwood
Hawthorn
Western Bulldogs
Sydney
West Coast
Carlton
Melbourne
Richmond

Also echo the many thanks to Norm ... The Board Of Directors today approved a 3 sticky rice grain raise for his efforts.

Our dodgy accountants - Schwindler, Schwindler and Schwindler advise that after fees, GST, withholding tax, Medicare levy and compulsory Superannuation deductions - he now owes us half a grain nett.

Running my own tipping competition here at work, I know just how much work goes into running one. So I echo thanks and congratulations to Norm.

To express my appreciation, I will pay the half a grain on his behalf. Just so he is able to get at least some nourishment.

Please note that I only have full grains at the moment, do you provide change?

Well, it's only 3/4 time, and really this match will mean nothing a month from now, but, with one quarter to go, I am moderately happy:

Geelong 111 lead Collingwood 44.

(at one point early in the match it was Collingwood 24 to Geelong 5)

I might add that of the top 8 in the tipping contest all picked Collingwood, so anybody's chance of making the big 10 points and stealing the competition by picking Geelong (as I suggested) has withered on the vine. Oh ye of little faith...

Norm

As I said above, the leader board has not changed:

SMSSLT 142 0
wilbaer 141 0 *
brickfield 141 0
sandgroper 140 0
gmoney 138 0
skilo54 138 0

*second place on countback.

For last place, eqnox did not post this week, disqualifying him as per the rules, so I think it is safe to say that sj_perth, on 54, will be last place champion.

Let me get out my New Math.

Sydney beats Geelong last week - the first time in 4 years they have lost to anyone at home.

Geelong thrashes those now also rans Collingwood tonight by 16 goals.

So ......................

Geelong's biggest win over Collingwood ever. They did not take the foot off the peddle, they could not even find it. But as I said, it counts for nothing from now on.

Although it is interesting that Collingwood only lost two matches for the season. I wonder who beat them both times?

Yes, the last time Geelong lost at Kardinia Park was in 2007 against Port Adelaide, in the second last Round. Fast forward to the 2007 Grand Final five weeks later. Geelong 163 d Port Adelaide 44. Greatest. Grand Final. Margin. Ever.

I like the New Math.

I won't get into this too much but here's some interesting facts:

Hawthorn destroyed Collingwood late in the season 1990

Collingwood destroyed Carlton late in the season 1970

Richmond utterly obliterated Collingwood in the first SF in 1929 after Collingwood went through the H&A without loss.

Funny game football.

Geelong out in straight sets for mine.

GO PIES

You may be on to something there, bathurst-stamper.... if Geelong lose to the Hawks, they'll be playing the mighty Swans... and we all know what will happen then. Can we make that prelim final at Kardinia Park please ???!!!

Fox News is reporting this:

"The Victorian Police Commissioner, fearing mob violence and retribution against the pathetic Collingwood alleged "Football team", requested Government approval to lock them in Solitary Confinement in Pentridge Prison until their next game.

This was rejected, as statistics showed there are more Collingwood supporters in there, than at large.

After an emergency Cabinet meeting, it was resolved to house them in the Melbourne University, this being unanimously agreed was a place no Collingwood supporter was familiar with."

Good win by the Cats, Norm!

It was a nothing game by any means, but still a win is a win, and congrats to Geelong.

I think it is Collingwood just placing themselves in the position of the underdog them against the rest. The Malthouse interview after the game just proved it, as a defeated coach he was just too upbeat for it not to be a plan.

I will preface what I am about to type by saying I am a life long Geelong supporter.

There was nothing riding on this game but no team, I repeat NO TEAM wants to get beaten by 96 points going into the finals.

It simply means that Collingwood is not unbeatable and will give every other side in the finals a real kick along.

It is funny that Collingwood have only lost 2 games for the season, both to Geelong.

Granted, Geelong were lucky to win the first but have a look at the stats, in particular the inside 50's.

Collingwood simply can't get the ball into their 50 against Geelong like they can against all other sides. Defences win finals and Geelong has a great defence, has had for the last 5 years.

Collingwood also copped a couple of injuries during the game. Tarrant was on crutches after the game and Cloke and Johnson both hobbled off during the game.

On the other side, Geelong's forward line still worries me.

Like Norm, I am not convinced Hawkins is good enough when the going gets tough. He plays well when Geelong are on top but the defensive side of his game is poor. He runs like a draught horse and has no "engine".

In my opinion, a fit Mooney would be a better option but is his body going to stand up to finals pressure?

Collingwood are a good side and have been the benchmark all year. They will have to work to win back to back, they won't be handed the flag.

Bill

No, it just means that while "tank" is a four letter word, there are too many letters in "tanking" for them to get the concept correct. :?:
