My current Avatar was chosen because of actual exhibit of my collection of United Nations, and because I think this is the most beautiful stamp that honors our hobby.

Others will come.

Cheers.

All change, as Thomas and his Friends steam off to Sodor, and make way for the late July Olympics/Paralympics issue.

The third of three sets of 10 depicting various Olympic/Paralympic disciplines my avatar now shows the wheelchari tennis stamp. Olympic Tennis will take place at Wimbledon. See all the stamps in the last set here.

Royal Mail are also producing an A4 sheet containing all 30 stamps, and we've been told this will sell for face value.

I'm updating my avatar. Here is my old avatar Image (14-29 June 2011) and my new avatar (30 June 2011 - ) Image.

I chose the £1 roo and map stamp because I really liked Skippy's waving £2 roo avatar, and wanted something similar. You can see his waving roo at http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=5063. He has an ear-scratching £2 roo on display there too.

My daughter Melissa made this animated (yes - just wait for it!) £1 roo gif for me. [If anyone else needs someone to make an animated gif avatar, she says she'll do them for $40 each. Her email is Mel4107 [at] hotmail.com.]

My roo avatar is 93 x 120 pixels in size. Stampboards avatars can be up to 160 x 160 pixels in size, and we are encouraged to make at least one dimension (height or width) to be the full 160 pixels. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite get both the 'delayed action' type movement I wanted and a 160 pixel high stamp within the Stampboards avatar size limit of 35 kilobytes (sorry Glen!)

Another StampBoards member with an animated stamp gif is mac1775. You can see his moving stamp on the "Animated Avatar" thread at http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8066#p359204.

Are there any other animated stamp avatars on StampBoards?

I chose mine because it is both a representative of my Country and also from my main collecting interest.

Mine is an Australian 45c Teapot of Truth stamp issued in 1998, viewed through a crystal ball.

Reflects my view of life, it should be fun, and never take yourself too seriously.

With the advent of a gold star it's time to move on to a new avatar and signature quote, (don't worry; It looks like the stars are going to get harder to get).

Moving from the G. K Chesterton stamp here -
Image
and "An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered; an adventure is an inconvenience rightly considered."

To a matching theme between the two.

My intent here is to thank the creators and maintainers of this board.. it is the most amazing demonstration of how technology can and will change the hobby that I can think of.

So in thanks, the avatar -
Image
and quote -
"I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder."
— G.K. Chesterton :D

Had no idea any more bandwidth was needed by anyone, but I just more than doubled the size to allow this. Mind you Animated avatars are a slippery slope. The £1 roo is quite OK, but many would annoy members.

I have changed my avatar today.

GB 1841 2d blue.

SG14; ES14; Plate 4; T-H Re-entry.

Folkstone 303 duplex cancel.

I hope you do not think I am being lazy by putting the link below to a post by pertinax, to fully describe this stamp.

If you know nothing about re-entries, or want to know more, then this post is a must read. It certainly helped me.

pertinax, that is an excellent post. Thanks very much.

Just changed mine to feature the $1.65 stamp from the Skiing issue due for release on 19 July. The issue celebrates the 150th anniversary of skiing in Australia.

PennyBlack1840,

The shadow 3D effect on your avatar... is that a special effect applied by a graphics editor?

It looks very nice!

Seems that I moved up to a Titanium star without even noticing.

Time to move on to another Avatar and signature quote.

I've still very thankful to Stampboards, but I'm going with an image of the US Mother's Day Stamp...
Image
...slightly edited and animated for better congruence with my new signature quote.

"The word "good" has many meanings. For example, if a man were to shoot his grandmother at a range of five hundred yards, I should call him a good shot, but not necessarily a good man."

I didn't choose either my current avatar, or the one I had before it.

When I joined, I was delighted to have a Victoria stamp of the 19th C, which appeared in my first few days here. Over a few months I was busy and rarely here, then when I came back, I discovered my avatar had been altered, to the current Malta stamp.

I do collect Malta, but its not a leader in my Commonwealth collection. But thanks, whoever....!!!

My new one is from one of, what I feel to be, the most attractive British India definitive stamp series. It is the 2a unwatermarked orange value, SG44, cancelled with a discrete diamond of lines.

Time to change. The Olympic/Paralympic (Wheelchair Tennis) set has been issued, so I'm now switching to one of the stamps from the Crown Jewels set to be issued on 23 August.

You can see the set of 8 here, and hopefully on your letters soon as this has one of the highest face values of any set of recent times at £6.00.

Some years ago I used to sell Hanna-Barbera figures on eBay and named myself after the villian in the "Cow & Chicken" cartoons, then my daughter's favourite.

As I had lots of ratings, I carried-on using the name but for stamps instead... hence "I.B RedGuy's Fine Stamps"

Image

Actually, now you come to mention it, I think I'll have a quick change too...

Your avatar is the block of 4 'roos beneath your name, to the left of the message.

Changed mine to show the recent Australasian Expedition to Antarctica stamp. This is the first time Australia Post has released a stamp inscribed 'AAT'.

I picked mine simply because it was a postmark from the place where I'd lived for about the last 15 years. The Torre sub-office was just down the road.

Of course, I've subsequently moved up to London -- but I still visit Torquay quite often and keep up my collection of Torquay postal history, so it still fits. Maybe I'll substitute the "Registered Owl Post" avatar I use elsewhere at some point. :)

Royal Mail's remorseless pursuit of the collector pound means that now the Crown Jewels are old hat (pun intended  ) we move on to the Centenary of the First UK Aerial Post. The stamp shows Gustav Hamel ready to leave Hendon for Windsor, and comes from a miniature sheet (and prestige stamp book) to be issued on 9 September.

Image

Users of preprinted albums should note that as the stamps are repeated in the PSB they will have catalogue status and album places as individual stamps.

The PSB also includes some new security Machin definitives - more about them later.

Australia Post releases its second joint territories issue on 30 August, this time celebrating the 50th anniversary of the WWF. There's a stamp for each territory, as well as Australia. Being a West Australian have picked the Quokka stamp - its an absolute shame that Australia Post no longer has a post office on Rottnest Island, as the postmark had a quokka.

A mere week after the WWF issue, and Australia Post is releasing another issue for Cocos, this time called 'Colours of Cocos'. A very nice, and very large, issue.

With the Aerial Post Centenary stamps out today, and the Machin Centenary sheet not yet received here (issued next week!) it's time to move on to the House of Hanover issue, the miniature sheet of which includes this replica 1d black.

That is a sharp looking minisheet Norvic! I had just noticed on another thread that you switched your avatar and was wondering what the inside scoop was!

I personally like the Robert Adam stamp the best of the lot of them. Beautiful Architectural Design!

Have a Good One,

My avatar is a South African penny ship stamp. This is my major area of study. This one has a variety. When someone catches it, I'll change it to another one.

It is somewhat ironic, I suppose, that now that I have a "Shooting Star" status I am changing off from shooting Grandma.

For the next level, we'll go with this GKC signature quote -

"Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car."
― G.K. Chesterton

Accompanied, by this new mash-up for my Avatar... congruence should be obvious.

Slightly late on this one, because the 4th set of Birds Faststamps from the Post & Go machines were issued last Friday (and will probably be exhausted from some offices very soon if Norwich is anything to go by!)

Image
The Puffin Fratercula arctica
The portly little 26-29cm puffin looks comical and clown-like waddling in and out of its island breeding burrow, but underwater it is a skilled diver, seizing rows of small fish in its huge gaudy bill.

Maximum cards for the Puffin and others to follow! See all the stamps - gannet, ringed plover, cormorant, oystercatcher, arctic tern here

I collect world wide 1840-1940, so any of 90,000 stamp could be my avatar.

I chose the 1908 Austrian Offices in the Turkish Empire 1 piaster Deep Blue on Blue. 8)

"Big Blue" is the name of my blog, as that is the color and size of Scott's International 1840-1940 album.

This stamp shows Austria's presence in Turkey- a more general regional slant reflecting my world wide interest. :)

I like Austrian's designs on stamps. :D

And finally, the hair line on Franz Josef resembles mine.

Well, I've finally got around to changing mine. Glen gave me a Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stamp avatar. That was a nice try as he knew my speciality had something to do with Arabic material.

But he was wrong, any KSA I have are merely bits and bobs added from auction lots. My real interest is in Arabian Gulf States Postal History (in the old days it was the Persian Gulf) material; meaning the UAE, the independent Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.

So, as I had some time to spare on my computer, I went back to my scans to choose something. The only one which fitted was this one which came from my most recent book 'United Arab Emirates Postal History Volume 1; Abu Dhabi'.

Not only do you need to read up on Avatar loading (fast!) but the International Date Line as well I'd suggest.

Because it's in your cache somewhere? It shows as a missing image on all three browsers tried.

My avatar shows the front of a 1796 cover from Bath (UK) to Rome: it is in my collection of Great Britain postal relations with Europe from 1793 to 1815.

Cheers
Luca

My avatar is the Canadian Bluenose and I cannot think of a nicer issue to represent me and my collecting interest. Seapaws

OH we all suffer from that from time to time (not your stupidity that is, our own! )

The portly little puffin has puffed off (they are migrators after all) and we now move to the A-Z of the United Kingdom, described in this thread > viewtopic.php?f=13&t=29153

Glen doesn't like animated gifs so I've chosen just one for now; might change it again over the next 3 weeks.

At least this once, I'm going to update my Signature and Avatar before the next posting level "star" is achieved.

I grew tired of the crude Church & Car avatar to be honest.

We will now go with a new GKC quote, this time from the front cover of my latest "Gilbert" magazine.

Quote:
"There is a whole truth of things, and that in knowing it and speaking it we are happy."
- G.K. Chesterton

And to match it, I've taken a US 1st issue revenue from my collection depicting a US President famous for his veracity... and added a cartoon balloon with one of HIS quotes in it.

Image

I'll probably just start changing them whenever the spirit moves me.
