Hi,

Very funny fake on Ebay :

http://cgi.ebay.com/INDIA-1852-SCINDE-D ... 0655588808

Image

I really like the question (probably asked by himself/his brother/sister...) :

Q: Its a wonderful stamp and I need it badly in my collection can you close the auction I am ready to pay Rs.25000.00 for this stamp. I can deposit the payment directly into your Bank account. Aug-02-11

A: Thanks for your interest in my listing. Sorry I can't end the auction as it is against my ethics hope you understand hence request you to bid & win the auction. I wish you all the very bests for winning the auction. Happy Bidding......

Happy Bidding, Matt

If someone is ready to pay Rs.25000/- why is it still at Rs.2500/-???
Maybe the shill questioner should open an account and shill bid and push that buyer to Rs.25,000/-?????
Funny though... Great tactics... How much is this worth actually??? Just to know if already a bunny has taken a bite!!!

There's indeed a shill bidder. Look at the "private", he has 71% of activity with this seller

That's pretty well described for someone who "has no knowledge of this issue!"
I also like the bit that it's the "worlds rarest stamp". I can name a few where there is only one of them.

"Shill questions"...

Googled "lakh", its an Indian unit of measure which represents 100,000. The seller did "so well" with the single at 27,000, they must be hoping for a "windfall" with the pair.

At this rate, we'll the largest-ever multiple in a few weeks, then a previously-unknown full pane soon.

Hello everyone,

I have been reading many posts about forged items esp of India.

I saw this particular item on ebay being sold for 44,000 USD.

Image

And in the picture it looks pretty convincing..

But I happened to see the stamp in person after contacting the seller, and realized how good a forgery can be !

There are many ways one can detect that this DAWK is a forgery !

Please give your view on this....

MOD COMMENT

shehzad99, I have merged your thread with the existing thread on fake "Scinde Dawk's" being offered on eBay. As nobody has offered a link to the pair being sold, which has already been shown about 10 posts above above on this thread, I would actually like to see a link as to the sale price, the seller and the price achieved.

That way, perhaps something can be done about it.

Norm

Another interesting Q & A, it seems as if the sellers makes them himself :P

Q: Really interesting piece ! I think you have already contacted a dealer about this and he told u that it is fake (correct me if I am wrong) But I think differently....Can I get your phone number. Also I will need some discount, no one in india will have the capacity to pay 20 lakhs ... if u r ready to negotiate we can have a deal, or if u want u can wait till the bid ends, I have no problem, I can wait for a year etc... I will anyways take some time to pay for this so might as well find others.. I will call you ! Sep-05-11
A: Respected Sir, Thanks for understanding and appreciating my stamp. It would be a pleasure dealing with you. Since it is not my field I don't mind any comment. Before calling give your name and number so that he can feed it into his mobile, we do not answer unknown numbers. I will give you mine. Hope to talk soon. Best Regards, AB

So the seller of the single was dfinearts, and the seller of the pair is anniefinearts

Is it just me, or do they look awfully similar in name?

Hey, I like the way he used a common marker pen to inscribe arabic/urdu letters that actually mean Ah Guh Duh Ch and doesnt make sense.. he skillfully used the marker to make a cancellation too !!

And the forging of the stamp was done in a rather simple way...

Using a silver replica of the scinde dawk , a key replica making substance (clay) and common sealing red wax easily available india... and very very common brown paper..

FORGING A SCINDE DAWK MADE EASY

First buy a silver replica of the scinde dawk !

Image

Second

Get hold of some clay (the special ones that get hard when exposed for long)

Image

Heat some wax, carefully apply some on some paper (thick one) or cloth (very innovative) :P
Image

Use the clay mould to make an SCINDE DAWK IMPRESSION on the wax. :D

And obviously u dont wanna get too greedy to sell a mint piece, so use some nice markers or even better some permanent ink (u can be creative on that) :D

And you just got yourself 600 USD :D on ebay

WOW, not really.
Please have a look at any genuine Scinde Dawk (with certs) selling at any auction's house, you'll see the difference.
There's a big gap !!

Small correction to above post.
It was offered for a million Rupees (around 22000 USD) but found no bidders. It has been listed again and there are 16 bids. Currently the highest is Rs 5600 (USD 130 or so).

Check out this link :

http://cgi.ebay.in/SCINDE-DAWK-RED-1-2- ... 1c1f0f9256

It is not funny. I think it is a clear case of fraud on unsuspecting buyers.
