170 pts

WCE was impressive this year, but I'm sure it will be Geelong vs Collingwood this year.

Richmond is improving finally... next year in the finals after the clean out of useless players 2 years ago!!!

(bolding mine)

That will depend on what sort of a mood Geelong are in.

Norm

Norm, you will be playing Hawthorn and you will be kicking a lot of points is my prediction. :D

We let you have a win, for a change, against us in a final (hadn't happened since 1963). The reasoning was, of course, that we wanted to be sure Collingwood was eliminated and didn't make it to the GF. Only way to ensure that was to let you win and then we could be certain of knocking them out. Did you like Buddy's acting? For all the world he had a done a knee, but the truth was seen last Friday night. :D

Hawthorn for premiers 2011!

I am not even keeping a record of which numbers have been used to date, but I am sure that plenty are left, and you can go "outside the box"
As I posted earlier in the thread, the Grand Final scores have ranged from wider than my guestimate,

The Collingwood Hawthorn game is about to start.

Still over a week to put your tips in.

I have been writing the numbers down and had it in mind to mention any that came up a second time, none so far as far as I can make out.

Average of all at this moment is 195 - I love numbers!!

Pies produce prelim miracle

COLLINGWOOD has produced a preliminary final miracle, clawing its way back from the dead to beat Hawthorn by three points at the MCG on Friday night.

In a finals classic, the Pies looked in huge strife throughout most of the match, with the Hawks producing a titanic effort against the reigning premiers.

Trailing by 17 points at the last break, the Pies somehow conjured a stunning 10.8 (68) to 9.11 (65) victory.

Travis Cloke put the Pies in front with his goal from a brilliant contested mark with 6:27 left on the clock, but this preliminary match-up for the ages had more twists and turns before Mick Malthouse's men would claim victory.

Lance Franklin put the Hawks back in front with a sublime dribbling goal off the side of his left boot three minutes later.

The Pies had struggled to cope with the Hawks' pressure all night, but they worked the ball back inside forward 50 where Luke Ball emerged from a stoppage to snap the goal that ultimately proved the difference with 2:49 remaining.

Even then the gallant Hawks kept coming and had the chance to snatch a late winner when Cyril Rioli took possession inside the last minute and took off from half-back.

However, Dale Thomas seized his moment and ran down the fleet-footed goalsneak, which allowed the Pies to run out the clock to a memorable victory.

QUARTER BY QUARTER

FIRST QUARTER
A tense atmosphere was reflected with an early Chris Dawes set shot that sailed across the face of goal and hit the point post. Dawes did get his first goal on the board soon enough, along with Travis Cloke who was the beneficiary of a 50m penalty. Hawks Jordan Lewis and Paul Puopolo bookended those goals, Puopolo's coming just seconds before the quarter-time break. It was the rebounding defenders having the influence on the stats sheets, with Leon Davis gathering 10 first-quarter touches while Grant Birchall and Tom Murphy were prolific for the Hawks.

Hawthorn by one point

SECOND QUARTER
It was a tight quarter with just eight scoring shots, lasting just 26 minutes. But Hawthorn edged ahead of the Magpies with two goals to Lance Franklin. The only Magpies goal came via a free kick to Darren Jolly and they should have had at least one other one but for some nervous mistakes - the worst of which was a kick by Travis Cloke that slipped off the side of the boot. Leon Davis had another nine touches but his efficiency was not at his usual rate. Ben Reid seemed to be hampered by the groin injury that kept him out of the qualifying final two weeks ago. Scott Pendlebury had 12 touches as did Sam Mitchell.

Hawthorn by eight points

THIRD QUARTER
Hawthorn carried its momentum through to the second half with an early set shot goal to Brent Guerra. Another followed to Sam Mitchell just minutes later after Nick Maxwell conceded a free kick. Big Magpies Chris Dawes and Travis Cloke each kicked a goal but Cyril Rioli lifted the roof with a great goal after a Collingwood turnover. Dane Swan was tireless in the middle, with 12 touches while Pendlebury had eight. Shaun Burgoyne showed class when it counted for Hawthorn.

Hawthorn by 17 points

FOURTH QUARTER
After three low-scoring quarters, the two teams turned in an epic last quarter. The Magpies, having booted just five goals in the first three quarters, slammed on five more in the last quarter to eclipse Hawthorn and win the game. The lead changed with the last three goals of the game, firstly to Travis Cloke, then a miracle dribble goal from Lance Franklin and finally a snap shot from Magpie Luke Ball. Ball had seven disposals and three clearances in a brilliant final term. Brad Sewell was just as tireless in the middle for Hawthorn.

Collingwood by three points

Gotta give the Hawks credit -- they played their collective asses off.

The Cats / Eagles game should be a great one tomorrow!

I almost don,t care if we loose next Sat,, the MAIN game was beating The May Blooms,

I will now be able to hold my head high at the next GOMC meet, as
The Walrus, Goldfinger Jason, all support the Hawks,
plus Philly who follows Melbourne, but seems to have changed Horses to Hawthorn as well.and not to mention my Old Pal PeterS,who has given me a hard time ALL season,

So my next BIG decision will be ,DO I GO to Brightons Auction Next Sat,or Watch the. Grand Final.

Ron -

You could ask the folks at brightons if they could either:

A.) Provide a courtesy telly at the auction; or

B.) Shout out the score between lots.

No excuses, Ron. I thought we were home after that bit of Buddy Magic late in the final quarter. We weren't quite good enough on the night, missed too many set shots early. I don't remember ever seeing Cyril run down, he would have sealed a win for us instead if he had got his kick away.

I am disappointed at the result, but not with the team. They played magnificently and, in my opinion, were the better team for most of the night. Considering the injuries we suffered during the season (to key players like Roughhead), the Hawks had an excellent season. Lot's of good young blood discovered and there won't be any retirements at the end of the season.

Geelong 117 d West Coast 69

...and did no more than they had to do. They were at half rat power during the second half! Hopefully Stevie J will be OK for next week.

I suppose it was obvious from about the 6th week in this season, but the Grand Final is:

Collingwood v Geelong

Win or lose, it's been a great 5 year ride Catters, and you did a lot better than I expected. Thanks for another great year.

Yes PeterS as ever, gracious in Defeat.

The Hawks played a Terrific game, and I was sure they would have won,
just the roll of the dice sometimes, :(
They should be near the top again next season, having been consistant for most of this year, and will be THE ONE to watch,in 2012.

As for Collingwood,I really don,t care that much about next week.you see, beating the Hawks was the MAIN one we had to win,

AS I am surrounded by Hawthorn Supporters, and a few Wanna bee Hawks followers too. and they have given me a HARD TIME all bleedin year, so now the scores on the Board ,so to speak,

This is another record, even if we don,t win,as it is 75 years since The Pies have had a chance to defend a Back to Back premiership.
So win loose or draw.if we have to loose to anyone, best its to Geelong,
as they too are the cream like Collingwood,
So best of luck next Sat Norm.if you win, you deserve it mate,
if you loose, well what can I say... Tough Titties.

Thought you might like to know that 222 has already been chosen, so not possible for you to win with that number.

I'm not sure if you are allowed to change it at this point.

Norm has the last word of course, but I can't image a vote change for that reason, done BEFORE the deadline of 2pm AEDST October 1 will be an issue?

Getting hard to find a # that hasn't been taken!

I'll try 211 points total.

I don't have the inclination to check out all previous guesses - I'm still getting over the Eagles loss as well as
King George's death.

Boo Hoo those bloody cats

No, well done norm, the Eagles just had no firepower. Now to the final hope it is a better match like the Hawthorn/Collingwood game.

Now that we are at the business end of the season and I've finally stopped sulking about Carlton being eliminated and myself not winning the tipping competition, I'd like to thank Norm for his great efforts this year and the sponsors of the prizes.
Congratulations to the winners.
So, my final guess for the aggregate is 187 which I hope has not already been taken.

Cheers and Go Cats!
