I know that deleting images from photobucket is really frowned upon! It messes up the whole thread.

What I would like to know, is it OK to delete images from your hard drive or does that affect your pics in photobucket as well?

Thanks, Anne

Hi there, :)

You can go ahead and delete anything you want off your hard drive and it won't affect Photobucket. I had to wipe the hard drive on my other computer a while back and no issues at all. Once it is on the web it is there unless you delete it from your account, which you know you shouldn't do.

Have a Good One,

Something I noticed with photobucket was that if you delete some images that are not associated with stamp boards, other images added later to photobucket may take their place.

I noticed this in some ebay listings where I included an image or two via HTML. After the lot was sold and feed back left I deleted the photobucket images but as I added more images to my account, some of the new unrelated images appeared in the eBay listing.

It may pay to set up you photobucket account properly with separate folders for eBay, for sale lots on stampboards, ask a question etc. That way it will be easier to manage and fix any problems. Most of my 1800 plus photos are in the one folder.

Thanks for that Skilo54 and Traralgon3844. Just needed to make sure before I got into trouble!!

All my images are in 1 folder as well, so it will pay to put them into new folders. Easier to find particular images that way as well I would suppose. Especially when you start getting large numbers.

Again Thanks, Anne

Well worth asking Anne.

But as I understand it starting to move a photo you now have used, into a different folder gives it a different photobucket code, and THEN it will not appear visible here I understand.

Anne, what ever you do, don't move your current images. As Glen says it will change the source code and we won't see the images.

Any new member would be well advised to create several folders in their photobucket account to assist with easy searching at a later date.

I had no idea I would amass so many images. Photobucket does have a search facility that enables you to search your own folder/account so it also pays to label the images correctly.

The details of multiple folders and labeling your images properly are too long coming for me as well. My Photobucket account is a nightmare to source as it stands right now. I also didn't realize how many images I would accumulate in the Photobucket account. I began using it as a quick "scan and post" image host and didn't plan ahead at all.

Thanks everyone for that. At least the number of pics I have isn't that large that it doesn't take long to find something but I wll certainly start doing it now.

Another point though, if you change the 'label' on an existing image, will it do the same thing? ie. give it a new code? and hence make the image disappear off a thread?

Thanks again, Anne

Ann - try a test of that in this thread, and report back please!

Be interesting to know.

Now, I'll try to rename it in photobucket.......and the result is.....

Image

Well, I added KGV to the title but couldn't work out how to actually change the original title in photobucket. Doesn't seem to be a facility to do that, that I could find.

What if I changed it in my photos and then redownloaded it on photobucket...that wouldn't work would it? It would just be a new scan! With a new code.

I'm not real good at these things until I've learnt how to do it. Then I'm OK.

Anyone got any idea on how to rename a pic in photobucket?

OK in both cases the link is -

http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k496/hutch59/QE11.jpg

You can change what YOU call it so it appears, but not amend the link.

If you move this into a new sub folder - see where that leaves us perhaps?

OK, I clicked on that link but all I got was a larger image of the stamp. Right clicking brings up a menu but no renaming facility. I shall try to move it into another album and see what happens!

Here goes...

Well, moving it doesn't seem to be a problem. I'll have to check back over the thread to see if it's disappeared there :)

Well, that didn't seem to affect the previous images in the thread at all even though a "standard" warning came up about links and codes being affected

Blast, now I'm stuck with a KGV in my Indian State folder.....if I delete that now it will disappear off the thread.

Hold on, what if I move it back? I wonder if that will upset photobucket and it will lose the code or whatever it is?

Can only give it a try...here goes!

Posting...posting...

well, that seemed to work out quite OK. So, I'm surmising that it can be done!. I'm not sure of older posts though. As this has only been done over the last hour or so, is there an "editing" breathing space? If you tried it with images from say 6 months ago, would it still work?

I haven't got anything from that long ago so I can't try it.

Hold on, I have an old photo in photobucket from when I first got this scanner and joined up to PB. I'll have a go at that!

Well, that didn't work! PB totally froze up and I had to shut the computer down. But, I did notice that all the previous images are still there when I restarted so that's a bonus.

Obviously the pic I was trying to download was too big for this forum but when I went to resize, PB had a hissy fit. Will try again now.

A hissy fit?

My gosh, I haven't heard that term since the last time my brother pulled my hair, which was at least 25 years ago!

Truly made me laugh out loud. Thanks! :D

Seemed, again, to work OK even with all the warnings again.

Do you think I should leave it until tomorrow to try returning it to where it was, to see if that affects it?

As I said before, there may be an editing time frame?

I am loathe to try moving stamps I have already posted in case it breaks the link...but maybe just changing folders doesn't really affect the code, just the whereabouts?

Well, there you go! SOME images were affected during the night but not at the time of doing it as the images that are now gone  were there last night before I turned off the computer!

Moral of the story: Make sure you create different folders for your photos and DON'T move them :!:

Still trying to work out why some pictures weren't affected and others were :?:

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help. It was an interesting exercise!
