The good thing about a fish that size (particularly a barra) is it's the right size to eat. So often you see huge fish caught and killed purely to increase the ego of the fisherman. They are often wasted rather than let go to breed.

I'm just back from 2 weeks on the mid-north coast of NSW. Caught a lot of big bream and a whopper flathead on lures plus sand whiting and even a stingray on beach worms.

They all went back to grow bigger, to breed and to fight another day

I recall reading a few years back that a kid who watched Rex Hunt's fishing show decided to kiss a big blue Leatherjacket when he landed it. Bad idea.

Bad, bad idea. You could lose half a lip, and apparently he did. Oh, and hugging Gurnard comes under the same heading if you want to not finish up in hopital at best, or dead at worst.

As far as flathead go, I kiss their tails, with my teeth once they are cooked to perfection.

Great Barramundis!

Wish I had you along on holiday.

We were in the Amazon earlier year and her is Margo dishing for Piranha.

There are more of them there than Mozzies.

I told her it is IMPOSSIBLE not to catch them there with a piece of meat on a hook on a bamboo pole. WRONG!

Hello all,

Well we went out to Cambellan ,What a disaster I did two tyres and caught nothing , ah well $1000 later and where all good

The Barrage on the Fitzroy is impressive and another failed irrigation scheme , but makes for some good fishing.

Well yesterday afternoon we decided late high tide about 5pm and 11 metres ,we will just duck into the first creek and get a feed of mud crabs.

But for some reason there was only hundred`s of small green ones so no crabs for tea.

But we did get a visitor who insisted on biting all our floats one by one so I used the long gaf to retrive the pots

Image

Also up here dont get bogged on low tide

Image

And there`s 2 metres to come yet

Last is a nice sun set and off to bed

Lucky bastard. Sure looks like a good trip. These are something I put together recently. I am a custom rod builder by trade. These were for the kids so they can play games on the Nintendo Wii. And yes ... they work!

They are the closest I have been to barra fishing for years
