Good afternoon everyone. I have a question about, Faces of Australia stamp sheet of 25. I understand the CTO and MUH are readily obtainable and the used are not.

I have 4 unattached sheets with full gum that came on a package from Castlecrag, Australia. All nicely canceled.

Now the dumb question. Are these used? And are they really worth more? hanks

PS: Remember I'm on the dumb question thread

Part of the Value of used ones is in the GETTING, its SOOOOO hard to put together a Full set of 25 Fine used stamps from this set,

They were not used to a great degree, but many sheets were sold BUT not actually used,
so I have, I think, 4 sheets in stock, and ONE set used,
and will NOT split it up if some one wants just one stamp, as I will have great difficulty in getting that one back again,

Some dealers do have good stocks.but as I don,t handle a lot of Australian stock.I don,t have many used, :?

Technically speaking, used within the period of their release is the go for the higher used catalogue value - "postally used within period". If they came recently then not really "within period".

Yours are also used and a form of CTO as they still have full gum and are full sheets, just nicely protected from being damaged when they were sent.

Normal CTO (cheapy bulk sell them off sort), would be AP cancelled at Melbourne (?) and come as singles (?)

I would value them somewhere between "properly used in period" and mint, next would be "used" and then finally CTO for these.

Tooler - as I told you at the time the used sheets would be worth more than you paid me in postage for the package. :)

Another member here got $A30 each (more than $US30 a set) yesterday for 2 sets of postal used singles - and sold them in hours -

List your spare sheets up for sale at $12.50, and you will MAKE money on the parcel!

These were the two postally used sets sold yesterday. :)

I have NEVER seen the complete used set listed up on stampboards or eBay. MUH and CTO yes, but never USED!

Glen using those as franking is GREAT -- Even as CTO they are worth more than face! Such a beautiful issue, and a missing set from many Australian collections.

There are sheets of CTO of these which have the MEL GPO Laser printed postmark, which of course are worth less than these ones woith CASTLECRAG CDS. It was mentioned in another thread that a dealer was selling the MEL CTO sheets for $5 each -- under half face value is very cheap! :)

This set would have to be one of my favourite Australian sets, I have a set of CTO strips, a MUH sheet, a few commercially used sets.... Doubt you would find many on commercial cover!

Stamp collecting is never boring, because there is always something to look for.....

Tooler's sheets are likely to sell fast at the price of $12.50 -- Every collector/dealer can turn postage costs into a PROFIT if we use decent franking. :D
