Uncle Doug died about twenty years ago. He collected matchbox labels for years and we recently found a tin full of his labels.

They are mostly Australian packaged in sets such as the Redhead set of Australian flowers.

Does anyone know of a reputable dealer in Melbourne who could appraise them.
Thanks.

With petrol at $1.50 a litre I would not bother to be honest if they are of that era.

There is/was a Matchbox Collectors Club, somewhere in Melbourne, last I heard they were based out at Altona, :?
one of the Estates I picked up a few years back was from a guy who was into graphic design. and he actually designed some of the Matchbox Red Head Girls for Bryant and May..and in some of his stuff I came across some of the original drawings he had submitted when he designed some of the covers,
So I tracked the mob down and the President :? came out to the shop one day.and picked up what was there for their archives.
but I have no idea who, where, etc now, but I am sure with a bit of Google you could track them down again.
As far as I know there is NO dealer in Melbourne who deals in Matchbox labels as such, perhaps a few may know a bit more than others,
Or even try someone like Charles Leski. :? just a thought :?

Thanks, Ron. We may have to break them up ourselves and eBay them.

If its not nailed down, someone will collect it. (And even then, a determined Italian diplomat once tried prying some sculptures off the Parthenon with dynamite  ).

If I had them I'd eBay them off. I can't imagine there'd be someone earning a living just selling matchbook covers. (But then, some people are surprised to learn you can earn a living selling stamps...).
